2020 School Sustainable Practice

  • Community Meeting

    Community Meeting
Hosting a community meeting to envision the future for students. Share the collective 21st Century Education vision with the group. Conducted a guided community input session to envision what we collectively want from our school in 2020. This vision needs to be adaptive and embracing innovations of today and tomorrow.
  • Period: to

    Implementation

Scheduling: For sake of this assignment, I am going to assume the following four learning goals arise during our community meeting.
    Communication - Year 1
    Innovation - Year 2
    Adaptability - Year 3
    Critical Thinking/Problem Solving - Year 4
  • Communication

    Communication
For the 2016-17 School Year the focus will be clear communication across the academic spectrum and school community. The year of communication will focus on honing in the vision established in the previous years dialogue. In order to achieve the goals of our educational community "Digital Natives" and "Digital Immigrants" will need to communicate on a common plane. In order to achieve this goal, the communication plan will be robust, including face to face and digital based opportunities.
  • Innovation

    Innovation
With clear communication students and teachers will embrace a year of focused efforts on innovation. Following the Google concept of built in time for Innovation: Students and Teachers will work to develop new and/or improved ways to meet the desired learnings. Use of the most current technology, texts, and tools will drive these collaborative process.
  • Adaptability

    Adaptability
The third year of the process will focus on teaching skills and practices ensuring the institutions', teachers', and students' ability to adapt. The focus on adaptation will better prepare all members of the school community for the changing world. One "known known" of the future, is that we do not know what will be available or will be driving eduction. The school of 2020 is able to pivot and adjust as needed to best prepare students for both reality of today and the possibility of tomorrow.
  • Critical Thinking/Problem Solving

    Critical Thinking/Problem Solving
The conclusion of this process will fall in line with Project Based Education or the idea of Senior Projects. Teachers and Students will work collaboratively, in differing groups, to define, analyze and solve a community based problem. These "projects" will serve to add to the community with student projects providing feedback for teachers and institution. Keeping our processes rooted in relevancy will only help keep the entire school community dedicated to the process.
  • 4 Year Cycle

    4 Year Cycle
The four year process detailed in the years previous thus become the new framework for the four years of high school. Each subsequent year of students will participate in an initial community meeting followed by Four Years of Focused Learning on the Key Findings of that Community Meeting. The schools of 2020 who do not participate in some form of constant renewal and reinvention will be akin to schools today still struggling to implement basic technology and subject specific instruction.
