The Paleo Indians were the very first to cross from Asia into North America. The water level dropped creating a bridge of land over to North America. -

Mesoamerica- People learn to farm
The hunter- gatherers who settled in Mesoamerica learned how to do things like farm and live in villages. -
Period: 1200 BCE to 1532
Mesoamerica- The Olmec, the Mayan, the Aztec and the Incans
The Olmec were the first people to arrive in Mesoamerica. The had large stone temples palaces and bridges. The aztecs were fierce warriors who made many sacrifices. The Incan empire was home to 12 million people. -

West Africa- Soninke, Ghana, Mali, and Songhai
Different people settled in Western Africa. Many advances in technology and economics were created within those people groups. -

Europe- Franks conquered Gaul
Because the Franks conquered Gaul, that area is now called France. Because of many attacks on their growing territory, nobles became higher in status and kings became lower. -

West Africa- Islam was founded
Islam was founded by an Arab named Muhammad. Muslims who followed him believed god had spoken to Muhammad through an angel. -

Mesoamerica- Pueblos were created
Above ground houses made of clay could fit many people inside. They were made for protection against invaders. -

West Africa- Ghana was in control of trade routes
Nearly all trade between northern and southern Africa passed through Ghana. Because of its control of trade routes, Ghana grew very powerful. -

Iceland- The Vikings find Iceland
Eric the Red and his crew of Vikings sail through the British Iles and sail around for a while until they finaly found the landmass of Iceland. -

Europe- The Crusades began
A series of wars called the crusades began between the European Christians and the Muslims in Asia. These crusades ultimately failed costing many lives. -

Portugal- Becomes the leader of Exploration
Portugal gets ahead of the rest of Europe in areas of exploration when people like Prince Henry the Navigator dedicated themselves to training others to be sailors and making advancements. -

The Americas- The Age of Exploration
Starting after the Vikings, the Europeans had a sudden hunger for exploration which took them to Asia, and a whole new continent of America. -

Spain- Columbus begins his voyage
Columbus gets help from the queen and king of Spain to try to get to Asia by sailing west. They gave him three ships and lots of supplies to start his journey. -

Spain- King Philip II lead a Catholic Reformation
King Philip II didn't like Protestant being in England so he used Spain's wealth to start a Catholic Reformation. -

Germany- Martin Luther nailed his 95 thesis
A priest named Martin Luther didn't like the ideas the Roman Catholic Church were preaching so he criticized them by nailing his complaints to the church door. -

East coast of South America- Ferdinand Megellan sails around Africa
A different strategy to get to Asia was to sail around the tip of Africa. With help from his crew, Ferdinand Magellan made it around and wanted to sail the rest of the way but his crew wanted to head home. -

America- The African Diaspora
About 12 million Africans were shipped across the Atlantic on boat. About 2 million people died on the ships. Of the people that survived, they would work on plantations for English settlers. -

South America- Pizzaro conqueres the Aztecs
Although they were outnumbered, Pizzaro's army had horses and weapons that the Incans had never seen before. Because of this Pizzaro conquered the Incan empire. -

America- Captives escaped back to Spanish territory
Two Europeans were captured by Native Americans and under captivity for six years. With help from others they made it back to Spanish territory in Mexico. -
The Americas- beginning of the African slave trade
Farmers on plantations needed new workers because the Native Americans were dying from disease. Some people suggested getting slaves from Africa. -
England- Pilgrims leave England
The Pilgrims were a religious group who were persecuted in England. To escape persecution they moved to the Netherlands in 1608. -
England-Mercantilism
England started practicing mercantilism. This is a system where countries maintain wealth by trade. A country gained wealth if it had few imports and lots of exports. -
Jamestown- John Smith builds a fort
Jamestown took control of the colony of Jamestown and built a fort. He forced the people living in Jamestown to work harder and created rules to reward hard workers with food. -
America- The Dutch founded New Netherland
The Dutch founded New Netherland meant to be a trading post for exchanging furs with the Iroquois. The center of this trading post was in New Amsterdam. -
Virginia- African Slaves
The first Africans were brought to Virginia on a Dutch ship. Some Africans were servants and other were slaves. -
England- Harvard College was founded
John Harvard along with General Court founded Harvard College. This college met the need for higher education. It taught ministers. -
Pennsylvania- Delaware became part of Pennsylvania
The Duke of York sold William Penn a chunk of land called Delaware, which was added to Pennsylvania. Delaware stayed part of Pennsylvania until 1776. -
England- James II became king
James II became king of England and he was determined to take control over the English government and other colonies. James thought the colonies needed a king and less independence. -
England- the Bill of Rights
King James was unpopular and so eventually he was replaced by the English Bill of Rights which was an act to reduce the power of the English Monarch. -
Great Britain- The Sugar Act
The Parliament of Great Britain passed the Sugar Act which set jobs on imports of sugar and molasses. This act was to raise money for the colonists. -
Middle Colonies- Servants come to middle colonies
Labor needs were filled by about 135,000 servants came to the Middle Colonies. Half of the servants went to Pennsylvania. -
Modern Day- Muslim Terrorist Attacks
There have been many terrorist attacks in America that have killed and injured many people. One of the latest was in London. This would have never begun if the Muslim religion was never started in the first place by Muhammad many years ago. -
Modern Day- The divide of the church
Because of Martin Luther's stand against the Catholic Church, the church is still divided today and the Protestant side of the church has grown hugely. Because of Martin Luther's courage, today I am a Protestant and so is my whole family. -
Modern Day- Mercantilism
Because of the idea of mercantilism the settlers had early on, from that we have importing and exporting all over the world. This idea of trade was started in the very first American colonies.
