On January 6th 2021 the capital was stormed by alt-right people who hoped to stop or change the outcome of the vote to keep Donald Trump in power. They (obviously) did not achieve their goal, and at least 846 people were charged. -

On 24 February 2022 Russia invaded Ukraine. The war in Ukraine is still ongoing.
