  • US Invades Iraq

    The invasion of Iraq was in 2003. U.S. forces invaded Iraq with the goal of destroying Iraqi weapons and ending the dictatorial rule of Saddam Hussein. The information about the weapons was shown to be inaccurate, and a violent insurrection rose, and so the war lost public support. Hussein was captured and hanged.
  • Hurricane Katrina

    Hurricane Katrina in 2005 led to 1833 people, and left millions homeless. The cleanup took about a year.
  • The Global Recession

    The global recession in 2007 was caused by low interest rates, easy credit, and insufficient regulation. It led to higher unemployment rates and the collapse of the housing market.
  • Iphone Is Introduced

    In 2007 the Iphone was introduced. This was a major development in terms of communication and spread of news.
  • Barack Obama Elected President

    In 2008 Obama was elected president. He was the first African American to be elected.
  • Earthquake in Japan

    In 2011 Japan faced a magnitude 9 earthquake. It led to the deaths of approximately 18500 people. It also caused significant damage to Fukushima nuclear reactors, causing what was classified as a level 7 on the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale.

    Gay Marriage Legalized in England and US

    In 2014 England and Wales legalized gay marriage and in 2015 gay marriage was legalized in the US. These were a major milestone for the LGBTQ+ community and showed how times were changing in terms of official acceptance of the community.
  • Donald Trump Elected

    In 2016 Donald Trump was elected president. This caused quite an impact as he became a figurehead for alt-right groups, especially after COVID-19, and the events of January 6th.
  • Start of the Covid-19 pandemic

    The Covid-19 pandemic started in 2020. There are approximately 6.28 million deaths, and 526 million cases.
  • January 6th

    On January 6th 2021 the capital was stormed by alt-right people who hoped to stop or change the outcome of the vote to keep Donald Trump in power. They (obviously) did not achieve their goal, and at least 846 people were charged.
  • Russia Invades Ukraine

    On 24 February 2022 Russia invaded Ukraine. The war in Ukraine is still ongoing.
