    All 100 passengers, nine crew, and four people on the ground died when the Concorde crashed on July 25, 2000. Air France Concorde Flight 4590 takes off from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, with fire trailing from its engine on the left wing in this July 25.

    Cellphones Become Popular
    In 2001, mobile phones became a little more defined and better looking than how they were before. Antennas were shortened and the designs modified; the features were also upgraded. The above image shows Nokia 9000 which was one of the most popular phones of that time. This influenced the production of more phones like the "iPhone" and more cellphone products.

    During the September 11 attacks of 2001, 2,996 people were killed (including the 19 hijackers) and more than 6,000 others injured. These immediate deaths included 265 on the four planes (including the terrorists), 2,606 in the World Trade Center and in the surrounding area.

    In 2003 the European heatwave led to the hottest summer on record in Europe since 1540. This heatwave led to health problems and destruction to crops, and led to the death of more than 70,000 people.The cause for this heatwave was global warming.

    Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster
    On February 1st, 2003 Space shuttle Columbia disintegrated over Texas while reentry into earth's atmosphere which killed all 7 astronauts in the shuttle. The cause was when piece of foam insulation the size of a small briefcase broke off the Space Shuttle external tank the debris struck the leading edge of the left wing, damaging the Shuttle's thermal protection system, which was unable to protect it from heat generated by the atmospheric re-entry.

    The invasion of Iraq started on March 20, 2003 and ended on May 1, 2003. This was the first stage to the Iraq war. When the President Saddam Hussein of Iraq refused to leave the U.S decided to start a invasion. The President was responsible for terrorizing the people of Iraq and was planning on causing more destruction with his weapons. The invasion ended with Saddam Hussein getting captured then executed.

    The London Bombings were a series of coordinated terrorist suicide attacks in London, England that targeted commuters travelling on the city's public transport system during the morning rush hour. 784 non fatal injuries and 4 people were left dead. The Significance of this event is that it made more people want to bring an end to terrorism. This made all the countries involved in the Iraq war send more troops and supplies to the battlefield because they wanted an immediate end to the war.

    The Execution of Saddam Hussein
    The execution of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein took place on Saturday, 30 December 2006. Saddam was sentenced to death by hanging, after being convicted of crimes against humanity. His death inspired the religious Shiites into intensifying their jihad, cementing their belief in the righteousness of their cause. Since the US invasion, the sons of those tribes have been increasingly enlisting in the resistance army. This marked the end of Hussein's terror where he killed 300,000 citizens
  • Global Economic Recession

    The 2008 Global economic crisis was one of the worst since the Great Depression in the 1930's. The economic downfall started in 2006 when house prices in the US were dropping then to the financial markets overseas. The US lost their largest insurance company, The biggest mortgage lender, and two of the largest commercial banks, After President Barack Obama signed the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act" which later ended the financial crises in the summer of July, 2009.

    Mumbai Attacks

    10 members of the terrorist group of "Lashkar-e-Taiba" rushed into buildings killing 164 people in total and more than 300 wounded which were coordinated by the attackers. The attacks lasted about 3 days. They attacked the Chhatrapati Shivaji railway station, Leopold Café, A theater and two hospitals. The attacks influenced the Government to be better prepared for terrorism which led to the creation of The National Investigation Agency which was similar to American FBI.
  • Barack Obama becomes the 44th President of the United States

    Barack Obama becomes the 44th President of the United States
    Barack Obama was the first African-American to be elected as President when he defeated the Senator of Arizona, John MCCain.Obama was part of the democratic party. The impact Obama had when in his 2 terms of presidency are that he ended the Great Recession of 2008, Ending the war in Iraq and he signed the Affordable Care Act which provided 20 million people with health insurance. When Obama was elected he gave America hope and he has inspired millions of people.
