    In 1823, the Arikara War is noted as the first Plains Indian War between the United States and the western Native Americans.
  • Abraham Lincoln dies

    The sixteenth president of the united states was shot and killed on April 11, 1865.
  • Completion of first transcontinental railroad

    Connecting the two American coasts made the economic export of Western resources to Eastern markets easier than ever before. The railroad also facilitated westward expansion.
  • Woman Gain Rights

    1920, the 19th amendment granted women the right to vote.
  • The great depression

    The Great Depression was the worst economic downturn in US history. 1929 signaled the beginning of the Great Depression. By 1933, unemployment was at 25 percent and more than 5,000 banks had gone out of business.
