1st and 2nd Industrial Revolution

  • John Kay

    John Kay
John Kay is the inventor of the flying shuttle. The flying shuttle was a big thing in the Industrial Revolution for weaving. It allowed people to weave wider fabric. It could be used as an automatic loom when mechanized. An advantage is that it made making cloth much faster. A disadvantage was that employed weavers could lose their jobs because the invention was becoming popular and used more often. The flying shuttle now is like a mechanical weaver or loom to make clothes.
  • James Watt

    James Watt
James Watt invented the steam engine. The steam engine was made to create a partial vacuum beneath the piston of atmospheric pressure using steam above its pressure. An advantage was that it had an upgrade to it design compared to the Newcomen steam engine. A disadvantage is that the steam engine was so big and heavy, that you couldn't use it to run smaller vehicles. Steam engines are now used to power any vehicles like boats, trains, cars, trucks, etc.
  • James Hargreaves

    James Hargreaves
James Hargreaves invented the spinning jenny. The spinning jenny is an alternative of the spinning wheel. The only difference and upgrade to the spinning jenny is that it can spin up to 8 threads at the same time. An advantage is that you can spin more than one thread and the process was faster. A disadvantage is that the threads did not always come out as perfectly planned and you'd need more yarn supply. Though the original spinning jenny isn't used today, they're are mechanical alternatives.
  • Richard Arkwright

    Richard Arkwright
Richard Arkwright invented the spinning frame. The spinning frame was a mechanized way to spin yarn from wool or cotton in a much faster way. An advantage is how quick and easy it was to spin yarn. A disadvantage is the yarn strength was low. The spinning frame today is more advanced and is mechanical though it is not called a spinning frame anymore.
  • Samuel Crompton

    Samuel Crompton
Samuel Crompton invented the spinning mule. The spinning mule is basically an alternative to the spinning jenny. Its features are combined useing the spinning jenny and the water frame, by Richard Arkwright. An advantage of the spinning jenny is it can spin cotton and other fibers. A disadvantage is that it made people who were needed in factories lose their jobs since they would be replaced with the mule. Today, the spinning mule is like a mechanical loom.
  • Richard Trevithick

    Richard Trevithick
Richard Trevithick invented the first Steam locomotive. The steam locomotive was used to transport good faster and easier. An advantage is it was good for transporting goods or even people. A disadvantage is how much pollution it caused. Today, steam locomotives are know as trains
  • Robert Fulton

    Robert Fulton
Robert Fulton invented the steam boat. His steam boat was know as Clermont. It was made for transportation. An advantage was that it traveled people from New York City to Albany and back in 62 hours. A disadvantage was it could observe to much pressure and explode. Today steam boats are like ships which are used for fishing or exporting/inporting goods with different countries around the world .
  • George Stephenson

    George Stephenson
George Stephenson invented the steam locomotive. The steam locomotive was to transport coal at Killingworth Colliery near Newcastle. It used fuel, like wood, cool, oil, in order for it to run. An advantage is it was good for transporting goods or even people. A disadvantage is how much pollution it caused. Today, steam locomotives are know as trains
  • Henry Bessemer

    Henry Bessemer
Henry Bessemer invented the Bessemer process. The Bessemer process was a process for manufacturing steel. An advantage was it melted iron to make steel. A disadvantage was that the process could be dangerous if not done correctly and that it was a slow process. Today, the Bessemer process is more advance and makes things for cars, tools, architecture, etc.
  • Louis Pasteur

    Louis Pasteur
Louis Pasteur invented Pasteurization. Pasteurization is a method the destroys any microbes in food or drinks. An advantage is the eating and drinking would be more safe and healthy. A disadvantage is that it also kill the good bacteria or any nutrition that the body needs. Today, Pasteurization is used in a more advanced way so that using machines.
  • Thomas Edison

    Thomas Edison
Thomas Edison invented the light bulb. The light bulb was an advanced way of light. An advantage of the light bulb was that instead of people having to use gas lamps, fire, or candles for light, the light bulb was an upgrade and let people see in the dark more safely. A disadvantage was the lighting wasn't as bright. Today, light bulbs are used everywhere like in houses, schools, hospitals, etc.
  • Nikola Tesla

    Nikola Tesla
Nikola Tesla invented the wireless telegraphy. The wireless telegraphy was a wireless communication device. An advantage was it allowed people to communicate from long distance. A disadvantage was it was a bit slow. Today, wireless telegraphy are more like cell phones.
