Nicholas draged the ill prepared Russia into World War 1. Russia suffred many defeats aganist Germny. -
Riots
Women textile workers in Petrograd lead a citywide strike. In the next five days riots flare up over shortages of bread and fuel. Soliders obey orders to shoot the people but soon join them. -
Lenin returns
Germany organizes Lenin return to Russia in hopes to keep russia in turmoil. At this time armed factory workers stormed the winter palace takeing control of goverment offices and arresting the leaders of the provisional goverment. -
Peace
Russia and Germany signed the treaty of Brest-Litousk. Russia surrendered territory to Germany and its allies. -
Civil war ends
The Red Gaurd crush all opposition. the opposition was 3 groupps of the White gaurd they recvied help from american supplies but it did little help. This victory showed the Red gaurd could both seize power and maintain it. -
New Economy
Lenin resorted to a small - scale version of capitalism called the New Economic Policy. This allowed peasants to sell their surplus crops instead of turning them over to the goverment. -
Lenin has health issues
Lenin suffers a stroke. He lives but the incident sets in motion competition for heading up the communist Party. Two of the most notable men were Leon Trotsky and Joseph Stalin.
