1990's History

    Baby BOOM

    -When the war ended there were eager men waiting to return home, find a job, get married and start a family
    -As the economy grew so did the size of families, birthrates soard from 300,000 in 1945 to over 400,000 in 1952
    -More then half of Canadas population was under the age of 25, showing the amount of babies there were 20 years ago
    -womens roles changed dramatically, with all the babies in the house, being a mom became a fulltime job making home moms a common appearence
  • Music in the 90's

    Music in the 90's
    90's grunge blow up-The 90's struck the birth of teen-pop and dance-pop, hip-hop grew evenmore
    -The 90's started to blend music genres together eg. new jack swing and hip-hop soul
    -Rock was most popular in the 90's with bands like the Foo Fighters, Soundgarden and Nirvana
    -Electronic music was just staarting its rise, which set the tone for the dance craze we are currently in
    -Alternaitve rock set trends for fashion in the 90's
  • Sports

    Sports
    -Chicago won 6 of 10 NBA championships
    -Boxing was amazing to watch bbecause of great boxers that were around in the 90's that made great fights, like Mike Tyson comming off an undefeated season from the 80's
    -Other then this, the 90's was a pretty boring decade for sports

    -The 90's was the genisis of two sweeping shifts in western fashion and the beginning of fashion rejection
    -The start of tattoos, body peircings, and ear peircings, since this was such a new thing/fad infections were very common
    -The popularity of alternative rock helped set the fashion for the 90's making ''unkempt grunge'' a very famous look
    -Fashion trends started to cyle, meaning everyone was wearing clothes from the 60's, 70's and other years

    -Halfway through 1999, MP3 files began to grow on the internet-Everybody started to create MP3's in 1999 so much so that it resulted in widespread copyright infringement. This created music piracy
    -Big record companies started suing free music download sites like napster, Metallica even got in on the action and sued Napster

    tech revolution-The World Wide Web was invented making information easier to access then ever before
    -Computers became a necessaty in any home, by 2000 therewere an estimated 295 million users on the internet, this set the tone for tech in the future
    -In 1998 stem cells derived from the human embryo were first isolated, this also helped us cure diseases and illnesses that used to be deadly
    -Possibly the most technological advancement was the improvement in communications

    -Did not cause any major glitches
    -The total cost of the work done in prep estimated at over 300 billion dollars (405 billion in todays currency)
    -Made computer technicians look like idiots

    revolution of the Ipod- As ordered by CEO Steve Jobs, Apple's hardware engineering chief Jon Rubinstein assembled a team of engineers to design the iPod line, including hardware engineers Tony Fadell and Michael Dhuey, and design engineer Jonathan Ive.
    - The product was developed in less than one year and unveiled on October 23, 2001.
    -Jobs announced it as a Mac-compatible product with a 5 GB hard drive that put "1,000 songs in your pocket."
