    Nelson Mendela was imprisoned for voicing his opinion agianst the government in South Africa. He was imprisoned for 30 years, then released and became that countries first president.
  • Persian Gulf War

    The Gulf War codenamed Operation Desert Storm was a war waged by the United States and other countries in the UN against Iraq in response to Iraq's invasion and annexation of Kuwait. After 100 hours of fighting, United Nations Security Council Resolution 687 passed in April, 1991 established formal cease-fire terms. The controversies over enforcing this and subsequent resolutions would lead to the outbreak of another war 12 years later, the Iraq War.

    The Yugoslav Wars were ethnic conflicts fought on the territory of former Yugoslavia. The wars followed the breakup of the country, where its republics declared independence, but the issues of ethnic minorities in the new countries, chiefly Serbs in central parts and Albanians in the southeast, were left unsolved, resulting in many wars for years to come. The wars that ensued includes War in Slovenia, Croatian War of Independence, Bosnian War, and the Kosovo War.

    Soviet Union Dissolved
    The increasing political unrest led to the dissolving of the USSR, and the establishment of the Soviet military and the Communist Party of the Soviet Union to attempt a coup d'état to oust Mikhail Gorbachev and re-establish a strong central regime in August 1991. On December 26, 1991, the dissolution of the Soviet Union was finalized by a declaration of the Soviet parliamentary body at the time (SRSSSU) and acknowledging the independence of the twelve republics of the Soviet Union.

However, in a September 1992 poll, only 37% of Slovaks and 36% of Czechs favored dissolution.

    START II (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) was a bilateral treaty between the United States of America and Russia on the reductiuon and limitation of arms. It was signed by United States President George H. W. Bush and Russian President Boris Yeltsin. On 14 June 2002, Pussia withdrew from the treaty in response to U.S. withdrawal from the ABM Treaty. a new treaty, SORT, succeeded this treaty.

    The Maastricht Treaty established the European Union under its current name in 1993. There were other countries that had formed a mock EU before this date, but the EU was formally established on this date.

    The Oslo Accords are a set of agreements between the government of Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization. The Oslo Accords marked the start of the Oslo process, a peace process that aimed to have peace between the Palestiniand the Israel. This peace process did not last long, with the two sides fighting agian in 2000.

    The constitutional crisis of 1993 was a political stand-off between the Russian president and the Russian parliament that was resolved by using military force. The relations between the president and the parliament had been deteriorating for some time. The constitutional crisis reached a tipping point when President Boris Yeltsin aimed to dissolve the country's legislature, although the president did not have the power to do so.

On 8 July 1994, at age 82, Kim Il-sung collapsed from a sudden heart attack. Kim Jong-il replaced his deceased father, who is now on display in a museum in Pyongyang.

It is the first film in the series chronologically, but it was created fourth. The film was also Lucas' first production as a film director after a 22-year hiatus following the original Star Wars film, and only his fourth overall.

    Vladimir Putin was put in power of then-budding Russian country after Boris Yeltsin steps down on Christmas of 1999. Putin is the second president of the Russian Federation. Yeltsin had popularity of 2% at the time due to economic crises and the Chechen war in the mid 1990's. He also dissolved parliament in 1993 in order for him to put laws and actions in place he normally couldn't have done before, leading to unrest in the Russina citizens. Yeltsin was also having heart problems at the time.
