1970's Computer Technology Timeline

  • Amdahl 1470 is released

    IBM creator releases Amdahl 1470 with IBM software but faster and smaller version. This has since been growing and challenging growth in the computer world.
  • HP-35

    HP-35 released, a handheld scientific calculator that could solve trigonometric and logarithmic equations with a solid state memory very similar to that of a computer's. This has helped keep up with the calculator systems and calculating functions and processing speed of computers.
  • VDM

    Video Display Modules weere introduced. The beginning of what now would be known as Graphic Processing Units, Video cards.
  • ROM Chips

    ROM chips were released for the Atari game console. These were the first interchangeable chips with preprogrammed games. Now games can be store in console but at the time this was ground breaking to be able to switch back and fourth through different games.
  • Laser disks

    Laser disks were introduced as a means of better video and sound quality. Though Disk Players were very expensive for the consumer at the time. The quality and size of date transfers has significantly grown since.
