    Assassination of MLK-J
    AssassinationMartin Luther King Jr was assassinated, while he was standing on the balcony of his motel room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was shot by a .30-caliber rifle bullet. He was immediately rushed to the near-by hospital and pronounced dead at 7:05 pm.

    James Brown
    Brown's performanceThe Afircan-American musical pop star James Brown is scheduled to perform live at the Boston Garden. The city was still shaken up from the MLK-J assassination. So the city's officials made up a plan to televise the concert and encouraged people to stay home and watch it on tv. He performed just as it was planned.
  • Oakland Police and Black Panthers

    Oakland Police and Black Panthers
    The Oakland police were involved with some Black Panthers in a shootout, resulting in the death of Bobby Hutton, who was only 18 years old at the time. Also, Eldridge Cleaver was wounded and seven Black Panthers were arrested from the violent gun fight.

    President signingA act signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson, was a piece of legislation that the U.S provided equal housing opportunities regardless of race, creed, or national origin. It was also known as the Fair Housing Act and was a follow up to the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

    The Secretary of Defense (Clark Clifford) called upon 24,500 reservist soldiers to come and commit to the war effort for two years. That call helped push the American soldier count in VietNam to over 500,000 troops in 1968.

    A committee of anti-war activists gathered in New York and San Francisco. They called for the governement to evaluate the the anti-war demonstrations. The avtivists also brought all of they're draft cards and performed draft card burnings, to protest the VietNam war.
