COBOL or Common Business-Oriented Language was introduced to make computer programs easier to read and make machines independent as much as possible. COBOL is still used to this day.

First Light-emitting diode (LED)

1962

While working for General Electrics Research lab, Nick Holonyak Jr invented the first LED, which we still use to this day.

First Computer Mouse

1964

Doug Engelbart invented the first mouse in the 1960's with the first prototype being made in 1964.

ARPANET

1966

This was the beginning of what we consider the internet today. It was originally a communication method for the US military that started in 1966, it didn't see its first nodes until 1969.
