Levittown, New York constructed over 40,000 homes for New York’s homeless. By making more homes, that meant more cars were to be made to travel from place to place. This increased the car business located in Michigan by a lot. With more cars that meant there could be more places to be, so came upon shopping malls and drive thru restaurants.

    U.S. Era of Suburbanization

All of these things added up makes a era of suburbanization.
By adding these homes, cars, and businesses to our country, not only did it add to our culture but what our lives are like today. All of these homes made room for more families which led to more people in our country. All of the cars that were built, made Michigan known for cars. Detroit, the city of cars is known worldwide because of the 1950s.
  • Period: to

    U.S Era of Suburbanization

With all these cars we needed more places to go, now making more roads, cities, and buildings and less farmland. Also, more shopping malls, drive thru restaurants, and more are becoming popular and enlarged because of the era of suburbanization. The era of suburbanization played a huge roll in the 1950s making it full of homes, cars, and businesses.

Without this new technology our lives would be completely different now. The credit cards gave us the ability to pay without cash in our hands but in the bank. TV has gave us many channels for everyone to enjoy, and businesses to advertise their products in commercials.
  • Period: to

    U.S. New Technology

Color and film and pictures changed how we take pictures today and eventually created filters. Photocopiers took businesses and schools to the next level, by making the work for teachers easier and better than ever. Without this technology, our lives would be completely different.

The increase of the medical field in the 1950s changed our lives today. The organ transplant gave us the opportunity to explore the human body and transplant other organs. The polio vaccine lets us diagnose polio and cure it. Also, the polio vaccine helped by making it somewhat easier to create new vaccines. Lastly, the discovery of DNA helped us out the most. This helps us with genetic engineering, finding cure for diseases, and help us discover more about living things.
  • Period: to

    U.S Medical

These advances in the medical field definitely gave us a boost of knowledge on medicine and more.

  • Period: to

    U.S Medical

The medical field upgraded humongously in the 1950s. December 23rd, 1954 the first organ was transplanted, the kidney. Also, the polio vaccine was developed, especially for the many children diagnosed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Lastly, DNA was discovered and many people built models on their own theory on the deoxyribonucleic acid. Without this increase in the medical field, polio vaccines, organ transplants, and DNA would not be existent today.

  • Double Helix

    Double Helix
This was discovered by James Watson and Francis Crick, February 28th, 1953, a Saturday morning. This discovery changed the thought of living things forever.
With this improvement in the medical field, a lot of new possibilities are accessible. Such as genetic fingerprints, a way to identify a specific organism by finger. Secondly, genetic engineering has made opportunities to make more organisms and alter organisms.
  • Double Helix

    Double Helix
Also, rapid gene sequencing, which enhances the medical and science field to the next level. Lastly, monoclonal antibodies are also added to the list of upgrades because of the double helix. This addition to the medical field has given everyone an opportunity to explore the history and mind set of DNA.
  • Double Helix

    Double Helix
The double helix is been one of the most important discoveries all around the world. The double helix is the structure of DNA. DNA also known as deoxyribonucleic acid is made of a “backbone” and “rungs”. The “backbone” is made of sugar and phosphate. The “rungs” are made of adenine and thymine and cytosine and guanine. The discovery of the double helix was known as the “secret of life” because every living thing contain DNA. The double helix got its name from the twisted ladder shape it has.

    U.S. Civil Rights Movement

The Civil Rights Movement played a major role in the 1950s. Segregation, the separation of races was causing many problems in our world. It separated housing (most of the houses built were for whites) and jobs (usually low paying, dirty jobs for the African Americans). Over 50% of all blacks were in poverty because of these reasons. Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks are 2 of the few African Americans that stood up for their rights and freedom.

  • Period: to

    U.S. Civil Rights Movement

Without segregation ending, African Americans would live the unfair life today and so would we. Africans Americans would still live in different schools and work harder, less paying jobs. We wouldn't even have Martin Luther King Jr. Day without his speech! Without Rosa and many others the Civil Rights Movement wouldn’t exist making it the one of the most important events of the 1950s.

Sputnik changed how everyone thinks and looks at space. Sputnik was launched October 4th 1957 in a small town in Russia. Sputnik was the size of a beach ball and obviously a sphere. Sputnik also had whip like antennae on one side of the spacecraft. It weighed 183.9 lbs was 58 centimeters at the diameter. It also only took 98 minutes to orbit Earth. Sputnik encouraged the Soviet Union to make a Sputnik 2 and so they did. This time, it was a bigger spacecraft containing a dog!
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
Sputnik played a huge part in the history of Europe but also a huge part in astronomy.
Sputnik changed astronomy for us human beings in modern day. First, replicas of Sputnik can be found in museums such as the aircraft museum in Washington D.C. It was also, the first artificial satellite to be released into outer space. This caused a “space race” once the U.S. found out about it. Russia beat the U.S at the race which caused another rumor.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
Other countries feared that since Russia was the first country to release into space, they are capable of sending missiles to other countries. Sputnik changed how we think and discover outer space.

Luna means moon obviously giving it the mission to go to the moon. Luna 2 impacted the lives of many European and people all over the world.
  • Luna 2

    Luna 2
Luna 2 impacted our lives today and how we discover outer space. Luna 2 changed how we track our spacecrafts and how we make them. Luna 2 was the first man made spacecraft to land on a celestial body (the moon). Also, Luna 2 confirmed the moon has no magnetic fields because it hit the moon itself with ease. No radiation belts on the moon was also confirmed with the help of Luna 2. Luna 2 affects how we discover in the astronomic field and how we plan to learn more as well.
