    Grace Hopper finished the program A-O. This converted "English-like words" to numbers so a computer could receive instructions. Almost all modern programmers create software using text-based programming.
  • Keyboard Input to computers

    Keyboard Input to computers
    MIT researchers began experimenting with adding a Typewriter type keyboard attached to computers. Up to this point, the programming of a computer used punch cards. The keyboard had already existed up to this point, and its initial creation is attributed to C. Latham Sholes in 1868. Until touch screens came around, all user input still uses keyboards to this day.

    English like programming language used by Scientists and programmers. It was initially released by an IBM team led by John Backus. This technology is still in use today.
  • Digital Phone Lines

    Digital Phone Lines
    Some phone companies started to release digital telecommunication lines for internal calls. This is the initial T1 standard that acts as a baseline for most networking today. Digital phone lines would not be released to the public until the 1980's, though.
