a campaign against alleged communists in the US government carried out under Senator Joseph McCarthy. Many of those who were accused were blacklisted or lost their jobs. Most of those people were innocent when it came to being communists -

Led by Marin Luther King Jr. The Montgomery Bus Boycott started as a result of Rosa Parks being put in jail for not giving up her seat to a white man. After 81 days they finally got the buses to fully integrate. -
Little Rock Nine
After the Brown V Board of Education case every school had to integrate. One of those schools being Little Rock High School. They were opposed to the decision though. After nine black kids decided to go to the school the governor even tried to stop them. This led to the national guard being ordered by the president to escort the kids to school for a year. -

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, leaders of the U.S. and the Soviet Union engaged in a 13-day military standoff over the installation of nuclear-armed Soviet missiles on Cuba. -

Watergate Scandal
The Watergate scandal was when John Mitchell and John Dean tried to steal documents from the Democratic National Committee. Instead of exposing this to the public, the Nixon administration tried to cover it up. The releasing of many documents and tapes lead to the resignation of Nixon as president.
