1950-1959 Tech Timeline

    1951
    J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly built the UNIVAC (Universal Automatic Computer). John Eckert was an electrical engineer. John Mauchly was a physicist. They both won awards for their contribution to the UNIVAC. Not only did their work pave the way for computers. They enhanced our lives mainly by giving us this massive computer and paving the way for computer designs.
  • 1952

    The UNIVAC was used to predict the presidential election. The first UNIVAC was not primarily famous in 1952 until it correctly predicted that the presidential election was going to be won by Dwight Eisenhower. This was also the first time the public saw a computer working during a live event!
  • 1956

    IBM invents Random access hard drives. The Random access hard drive is the memory of our computer. The hard drive would deliver saved information by spinning the disks and recovering the information saved on the chosen one.
  • 1956

    The first seminar about artificial intelligence was held at Dartmouth College. It was hosted by John McCarthy, a mathematician and computer scientist, alongside Marvin Minsky, a mathematician. John McCarthy is credited for coining the term, "Artificial intelligence." Their contribution was hosting an academic seminar regarding computers and their abilities.
  • 1959

    Xerox released the first copy machine. The machine was Invented by Chester Carlson. The contribution here is quite simple, can you imagine what work would be like without a copy machine?
