  • D-Day

    D-Day (Normandy Invasion) refers to the largest seaborne invasion in history. It was a brutal and very notable invasion with only 1 in 4 men who fought surviving.
  • Atomic Bomb Droppings

    Insight of what the Japanese did at Pearl Harbor, the United States dropped atomic bombs in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. This was a very controversial move by the United States but caused Japan to ultimately give in to the US. The cities were destroyed and many civilians died.
  • The United Nations

    In October of 1945, the United States helped charter the United Nations with several other countries in hopes to replace the League of Nations. Doing so allowed many world powers to work together for peace and the welfare of the world.
  • The Death of Hitler

    In December of 1945, Adolf Hitler and his wife committed suicide while hiding from the Soviets. Adolf took a gunshot to the head and his wife drank poison. To ensure that he was really dead, his body was soaked in gasoline and set on fire until his body was unrecognizable as human.
  • Beginning of the Cold War

    With the end of World War 2 came the start of the Cold War. The Cold War lasted decades and included hostile tensions between the USA and USSR (Russia). Fear and paranoia of power/weapons were very big for this "war."
  • The Polaroid Camera

    In April of 1947, the Polaroid Camera was invented by American scientist Edwin Land. He is credited with the invention of modern cameras and released his special camera 10 years after founding his corporation.
  • The Dead Sea Scrolls

    The Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered between 1947 and 1956 in 11 different caves. The scrolls included around 900 Hebrew Bible texts and were all discovered within an ancient settlement northwest of the Dead Sea.
  • McCarthy's Witch Hunt

    Senator Joseph McCarthy accused hundreds of innocent people of being communists, which ended in a 'witch hunt'. He knew that doing so would set Americans crazy trying to steer clear of communism and give him a better position amongst the people.
