Atomic Bombs Dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
The U.S, after Japan refused to surrendor, drops two atomic bombs on both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These bombings effectively win the war for the Allied Forces and end WWII. -
Treaty of San Francisco Signed
The Treaty of San Francisco is signed on this date. Officially ending all hostilities with Japan and the United States -
DNA Officially Documented for the First Time
James Wattson and Francis Crick officially document the idea of a DNA double helix. They later recieved a Nobel Prize for it in 1962. -
Segregation Officially Delcared Illegal
The Supreme Court officially declared segregation as "inherently unequal" and outlaws it, although it still takes many years for segregation to be completely over. -
Cat in the Hat is First Published
The world-famous book by Dr.Seuss, Cat in the Hat, is published. A book that is still read to children across the world to this very day. -
NASA Founded
NASA is founded. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
The Bay of Pigs Invasion lasted from April 17th-19th 1961, and was a failed US attempt to overthrow the Cuban government of Fidel Castro. The US soldiers and Cuban exiles were defeated within the three days. -
Cuban Missile Crisis Starts
The United States has the biggest tension with both Cuba and Russia in history. With fear of a nuclear war, the Cuban <issile Crisis lasted for nearly 13 full days and the resaults were nearly disastourus. -
Martin Luther King Jr. Gives his "I Have a Dream" Speech.
This revolutionary speech helped shape the histroy of US relations with African Americans and segregation. -
President John F. Kennedy is Assassinated
John F. Kennedy, was shot by southerner, angry about his acts on segregation in America. Kennedy was then succeeded by, at the time, vice president of America, Lyndon B. Johnson. -
Martin Luther King Jr. was Assassinated.
On 6:01 PM, Martin Luther King Jr. is shot by a sniper. He was standing on the balcony of his hotel room, when he was shot. He was declared dead at 7:05 PM. -

The king of Rock N Roll, dies of a heart attack at the age of 42. -

One of the most heart-warming movies in America, E.T. sets the bar for movies. -
Ronald Reagan announces "Star Wars"
This bluff was that the U.S. had satellite lasers that could knock-down any missile attacks sent by the Soviet Union. This plan worked and they backed down, ending the Cold War. -

DNA first used to convict criminals
With the ability to find criminals via DNA, cops are able to quickly and accurately figure out who commited the crime and put the criminals behind bars. -
Berlin Wall is torn down
"Tear that wall down!" the famouse quote that ended it all and gave peace to Germany. -
Rodney King Beatings
Rodney King and a couple of his friends was driving drunk and were speeding. When police attempted to pull them over, King sped up and led them on an 8 mile chase. Police cornered his car and asked them to exit the vehicle. King’s friends complied, but King himself was resistant. King eventually exited, and police quickly swarmed him. The police subdued him, and then proceeded to beat King using batons. This event was caught on tape and led to massive riots resaulting in 53 deaths. -
The "Playstation" is introduced
It wasn’t the first disk based video game console, but it was the first affordable one. Released in Japan on December 3rd, 1994 (September 9th, 1995 in America) with a starting price of $299, the Playstation 1 (or PSX) was an instant hit. The console premiered with many games such as Doom, Warhawk, and Air Combat. The PSX continued to sell well, and it did not cease production until 2006, 11 years after its release, and 5 years after the release of the PlayStation 2. -
