Colonel William Joseph Simmons started the klan again. The Ku Klux Klan were against African-Americans,Catholics,Jews and foriegners. They would use beatings, cross-burnings, kidnappings, and murders to get their way. By 1920, the Ku Klux Klan had 5 million men. -
The Great Migration

The Great Migration was when over 7 million African-Americans migrated from the farm to the city. Cities' population increased by large amounts. Many cities gained a larger African-American population. -
WWI ends

Germany and its allies agreed to stop fighting on this date. The war officially ends on June 28th 1919 with the Treaty of Versailes. The treaty is important because some countries feel as if they were not given enough benefiets or too much punishments. This is a cause for WWII. -

The roaring twenties consisted of money and fun. People would spend money on most anything. These bad investmens would lead to one of the biggest depressions in the history of the United States. The style changed a lot from what it had been. The girls started to wear makeup,floppy dresses and even smoke or drink with the men. -

The 18th amendmant was passed on January 16,1919, but never took effect until January 17,1920. Prohibition banned the sale,production,and transfer of alcohol. Congress thought that the ban will lower crime rates. This was not successful because many just found a way around it.Crime rates actually increased -
The Sacco and Vanzetti Trial

Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were charged with murder and robbing a shoe factory. Many people think they were charged because they were anarchists and immigrants. They were later sentenced to the electric chair. This turned people's views of immigrants. -
The Nineteenth Amendmant

Around the 1920s, women were gaining their rights. Women would get regular jobs instead of staying at home. Women at last got the right to vote and were able to change the route of politics. -

In 1922-23, Albert B. Fall of Warren G. Harding's administration sold navy oil land to oil compaines. After a year, people found out. Albert B. Fall was convicted and sentenced to 1 year in prison. Many other people in Harding's adminstration resigned. Harding's popularity was hurt after this incident. -

The Scopes Trial was when Prof. John Scopes taught evolution to students. Many people thought it was unchristianlike to teach evolution. In the end, he was fined $100. -

Even though the stock market had already started to crash, Black Tuesday was the worst day. On Black Tuesday the stock market crashed and never went back up. Many banks closed and people lost their life savings. Reasons for the crash were Bad investments and overproduction. -

During the 1930s, a large drought happened. The soil had dried out and was blown away by strong winds, sometimes raging up to 60 mph. Dust storms would last up to three days. People would go west looking for jobs that were already taken by migrant workers.This is significant because many farmers went out of work. -

This battle is a key battle on the eastern front. German forces controlled over 9/10 of the city. Then all of a sudden, the Russians had a rally and made many Germans surrender. German forces were now in retreat and didn't stop until Berlin. Over 1,000,000 Russian citizens died in this battle. -
Potsdam Conference

This conference is key because it decides how Germany will be split up. Germany ends up being split into 4 sections. The Soviet zone, American zone, and the British zone were the biggest ones. The soviet zone were communist. while the other zones are free. However, Berlin is split into West Berlin(free) and East Berlin(communist). -
Marshall Plan

The Marshall Plan was created by George C. Marshall. The plan gave over $15 billion to western european nations. The money was supposed to be used to stop communism in the countries. -
Berlin Airlift

The Soviet Union blocked all railways and highways from West Berlin. This blocked many sources of supplies for West Berlin. U.S and British planes had to drop supplies( food,fuel,and other supplies) to West Berlin citizens. After 321 days, the Soviet Union removed the blockades because they did not want to risk another world war. It lasted until May 21,1949 -
The Start of the Korean War

Korea splits into two governments, one- communist(North) and one - republic(South).North Korea invaded South Korea and almost put South Korea in extinction. Then UN forces came into South Korea and pushed North Korea back to China until the Chinese pushed South Korea back to the 38th parallel. Both sides ended up with the same territory.
