  • Lacey Act of 1900

    A conservation law in the United States that
    prohibits trade in wildlife, fish, and plants that have been
    illegally taken, possessed, transported, or sold.
  • The Roosevelt Corollary

    An addition to the Monroe Doctrine articulated by President Theodore Roosevelt in his State of the Union address in 1904 after the Venezuela Crisis of 1902-1903; asserted that the US wished to promote stable, prosperous states in Latin America that could live up to their political and financial obligations.

    The piece of legislation gave postal officials the authority to ban newspapers and magazines from the mails and threatened individuals convicted of obstructing the draft.

    The act made it a federal offense to use disloyal, profane, scurrilous, or abusive language about the Constitution, the government, the American uniform, or the flag.
