Woman's Christian Temperance
A group of women was concerned about how the alcohol could damage their families. They prayed and tried to get businesses to shut down if they sold alcohol they didn't want anything to do with alcohol anymore. -
Anti-Saloon League
This league was basically formed in order to influence saloons to shut down businesses. They had many fliers and newspapers made. Their main goal was to unify public anti-alcohol and enact further anti-alcohol legislation. -
WCTU march
This takes place within Washington D.C. 1,000 women from the WCTU were joined by 1,000 men from the Anti- Saloon league as they marched silently to the capital. -
18th amendment being proposed
Early temperance advocates aimed to reduce alcohol consumption and prevent alcoholism, drunkenness, and the disorder and violence it could result in. They tried to do this because they didn't want kids getting hurt and even adults being hurt by people that were drunk and caused scenes. -
National Prohibition act
Ratified the 18th amendment banning the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcoholic beverages. -
Bootlegging starts
Bootlegging or the illegal traffic of liquor in violation of legislative restrictions on its manufactures, sale, transportation, or even the sale of alcohol beverages during the prohibition of the 18th amendment. -
18th amendment goes into affect
1 year later the 18th amendment is ratified and goes into effect. They try tog et rid of alcohol. -
Stock market crashes
Billions of dollars were lost, which wiped out thousands of investors. Which causes people to go broke no businesses around and no one is able to buy food or drinks. -
Great Depression
People have no money and are having a hard time living and they begin turning alcohol into more than what it is. -
The 18th Amendment Repealed
The 18th amendment was repealed with the ratification of the 21st amendment. Alcohol business went under, increased crime, and disrespect for the law.
