During 1880, the Federal Gov. counted approx. 239,000 residents in the state of Kansas. The Federal Gov. also counted approx. 1,600,000 residents living in Texas. -
Chinese Exclusion Act & Immigration Act
1882 - Chinese exclusion act was passed making Chinese illegal immigrants. 1882 - Immigration Act: denying people admission to America because of inability to support themselves, paupers, people with mental illnesses or convicted criminals. This also allowed the U.S. Gov. to further control the immigrants who migrated to the U.S. such as the growing Catholic communities, which could become a problem. -
Knights of Labor 1886 Strike - Marshall, Texas
A company founded by Jay Gould fired a Knights of Labor member for attending a union meeting. His local union walked off the job and soon others joined. Police, militiamen, strikebreakers, political leaders and even the Texas Rangers were called to break up the strike, which they did. However the Knights of Labor still had their eyes set on an eight hour workday and made it into a national campaign. -
Farmer's Alliance Elected James B. Weaver
The populists (farmers alliance) nominated former Civil War general James B Weaver as their presidential candidate at the parties first national convention in Omaha, Nebraska. Weaver received over 1 million votes in the election. In the 1894 elections the populist elected six senators and seven representatives. The third-party seemed destined to conquer American politics. -

This famous treaty is what ended the Spanish/American war. The fighting was long, and very fierce. U.S. gained not only victory over the war, fame for Roosevelt and his rough riders, but also gained the territories of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. -
