  • First Safety Break for an Elevator

    In 1852 Elisha Otis invented the safety brake for the elevator, so that if something is stuck like clothing the brake can be pressed by the people who work there. It was a much easier way to stop the elevator if anything was stuck like clothing or hair.
  • Gadsen Purchase

    The Gadsden Purchase or treaty was when the United States and Mexico signed a treaty in 1854. When the treaty was going on people were traveling through the borders of the country to get from Mexico to the USA.

    In 1858 Hamilton Smith first invented the rotary washing machine. He was sure that it was supposed to wash things very quickly and efficiently. Also it could work if you needed to wear something for that day, because it was able to operate very efficiently.
