Queen Victoria Marries a German
Queen Victoria married her cousin Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. He wasn't given his official recognition until 17 years later with the title prince "consort". Prince Albert wasn't really liked by the british public. -
William H. Harrison elected President then dies
William Harrison is the 9th President of the United States who only served a month. He died shortly after he was inagurated from pneumonia. -
Massacre of 16,000 in Afghanistan
16,000 soldiers of the Anglo Expeditionary force were killed except a hand full of soldiers. They were retreating from Kabul after afghans started to revolt so the british decided to retreat. And that retreat lead into many Mountain passes such as the Khyber Pass. -
Wagon Train on the Oregon Trail.
1,000 pioneers leave Independence, Missouri on the Oregon Trail. Their train consisted more than 100 wagons and 5,000 cattle that were behind the wagon train. It was a 2,000 mile journey when they reached their end point in the trip. -
Nitrous Oxide used in dental work
The first nitrous oxide used in dental work was in Hartford Connecticut. A dentist did work on another dentist tooth that was perfectly fine as an experiment. -
Texas becomes the 28th state
The U.S. annexed the Texas area and admitted it the 28th state. They entered the union as a slave state with differences of slavery then the U.S. did. -
Donnor party tragedy
Eight families were caught in snow with no way out and they were running out of supplies. One supply they ran out of was food and they resorted to cannibalism. Seven people survived to tell the rest of the Donner party that fell behind what had happened and they lead 48 of the original 87 people party back to California. -
Doughnut created
A sea captain Hanson Crocketts mother made him little cakes for him to take on the ocean. Stories are that he put these cakes on the ships helm and then there is where he just asked his mother to remove the soggy center of the cake. And the other story is that Indians shot arrows into the doughnuts when they were attaching the pilgrims. -
Niagra Falls Stops Flowing
Niagra Falls stopped flowing for 30 hours because of frozen ice. An American farmer was the first to discover this when there was an absence of the falls roar. In the morning people then woke to silence. Mills and factories had to be shut down because of the ice. -
First air raid
Austria used balloons to drop bombs on Venice where there was little damage done. The balloons were not piloted by anyone and Venice surrendered 2 days later
