Under Ground Railroad
The underground railroad started back in the 1820. It is when Missouri became a slave state. Then Maine became a free state. Also in 1850 their was a fugitive slave act. It was the biggest act to be passed by the compromise of 1850. Then slaves started to run away (run a way slaves). -
Missouri Compromise
In 1820 Henry Clay proposes in the senate a balance between the number of free and slave states but by accepting Maine as a free state. There is one to many free states so the 36-30 parallel line establishes free to the north and slave to the south. -
Harriet Tubman
In the 1800's Harriet Tubman mad 19-20 trips form the south to the north. She did this and got her 70 year old parents and about 200 more slaves to freedom. Also she carried a gun so if anyone tried to give up that was used as a treat for them. Also she never lost a passanger. Lastly she was a spy for the Union during the Civil War. I choese this date because this is when she was born. -
Nat Turner's rebellion
In Virginia in 1831, _ Nat Turnner_ and 60 slaves_ wanted to oppose slavery but they killed plantation owners so the southern whites _killed many innocent slaves and passed black codes further limiting slaves’ freedom. -
Compromise of 1850
In 1850 Henry Clay _wanted the South to stay in the _ but the free states would outnumber the slave states in the union so the Compromise of 1850 was _passed. California _was allowed to become a Free state but voters in the senate _would decide if they would be slave or free. The _fugitive slave _act required people to catch and return runaway slaves. Slave _trade was no longer allowed in Washington D.C. but slavery was allowed. -
Kansas Nebraska Act
Now Kansas has a nickname "bleading Kansas". -
Kansas Nabraska Act
On May 30, 1854 the Kansas Nabrask Act was passed by the U.S. congress. When they did this it got rid of the 36' 30' line because they couldn't determin if Kansas was a free or slave state. Franklin Pierce was in support of the pro- slavery and John Brown was in support of the anti- savery. It took 4 elections to figure out if Kansas was free or slave. Also there
was a huge rush of pro and anti slavery settelers trying to get into Kansas this led to vilonce between the groups of settlers. -
Dred Scott Case
In 1857 Dred Scott wanted his family and him to be freed slaves. He and his family eventual became free becasue of the Blow family. They lived with no voice or rights in the government. Also they were not even to be in a cort because they weren't citizens. In the corts eyes say him and his family were property. Lastly Ms. Emerson was using them to get money she would lead them out to get her money -
Presidential Election of 1860
In the presidential Election of 1860 Abraham Linclon won. He won with 180 votes. Also he didn't get on southen vote he got all his votes from the northern states including Oregon and Calafornia. His constitotinal party was Republican. Lastly he didn't want slavery to exspand but the southerners wanted it to. -
Attack on Fort Sumter
The attack of fort sumter is where fort sumter was on an island. Everyone was trying to attack it but there were a bunch of gun battries that were surrounding it. Also there where two confederate forts that were diagnal form the fort.
