    A Supreme Court decision that expanded the power and authority of the Constitution. Established the right to declare acts of Congress unconstitutional.

    An inconclusive 3 year war brought about by the impressment of American sailors by the British Navy, tension over expansion, trade, and policy.
    This war brought about the emergence of the U.S military force and was brought about by deep-rooted conflict between the U.S. and Great Britain.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    A compromise made between Maine and Missouri in order to maintain the balance of free and slave states. Main was admitted as a free state and Missouri a slave state, additionally a line was drawn in Louisiana territory which prohibited slavery in states above said line. This split the nation in half in attempts to subside tensions regarding slavery.

    This Act, signed by Andrew Jackson, forcibly removed Native Americans settled in the east, to lands west of the Mississippi River. There were actions taken by the Native Americans against the Removal Act, but none were approved.

    Trail of Tears
    The removal of over 15,000 Cherokee Indians forced to travel from Georgia to modern-day Oklahoma with little to no food, water, or resources to survive the long route now known as the Trail of Tears. This action was granted by the powers of the Indian Removal Act. The journey caused the death of approximately 4,000 by starvation and disease.

    Seneca Falls Woman's Convention
    The first woman's rights convention in the United States. It was located in Seneca Falls New York and organized by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a woman's rights, and slavery activist. Approximately 300 people attended to debate and discuss women's suffrage and the opposition of slavery. This event was had a large impact of the growth of of women's suffrage in the United States.

    Fifteenth Amendment
    This Amendment was created to open voting to all citizens, by prohibiting states power to deny a citizen's right to vote based on their, race, color, or previous title as a slave or servant. Gave men of color the right to vote.
  • Supreme Court Strikes down Civil Rights Act

    Supreme Court Strikes down Civil Rights Act
    This Supreme Court decision reversed the discrimination laws enacted by previous Civil Rights Act of 1875 which prohibited discrimination in public places and facilities. Black Americans were no longer protected by this Right and faced harsh conditions from the general public.

    Plessy vs. Ferguson
    A Supreme Court ruling which legalized the principle, "separate but equal." in the segregated areas of the South. Segregation in facilities and businesses was constitutional as long as the designated areas were equal in condition.
