Jamestown
Founded in 1607, Jamestown was the first successful British colony in the New World. John Smith was the leader of the colony. Also named after King James, the Monarch of England at the time of the settlement. -
House of Burgesses
In 1619 the House of Burgesses was established. The representative body was comprised of 30 white land owning males. It had a bicameral legislature. This governing body will influence the constitution, some of the laws still stand today. -
Dutch Slave Ship Arrives to Jamestown
in 1619 a Dutch slave ship arrives to Jamestown. The ship sells 20 slaves to the colony, thus saving the colony form starvation and low money. -
The Plymouth Colony
The Plymouth Colony was established in 1620. The colonist came over on the famous Mayflower. Whilst on the boat, the colonist decide that when they get there they were going to need something to govern them, so they wrote the Mayflower Compact. -

In 1624, the Dutch settled on the Hudson River and Manhattan Island. Later on the English took control of the land and are, thus renaming it "New York". -
King Phillip's War
King Phillip's War was a war in 1675 between the Plymouth colony and the Massasoit tribe. The Massasoit tribe had taught the Plymouth colony how to plant, gave them corn, and gave them land.
However, the English had Humiliated King Phillip (the leader of the Massasoit). This angered King Phillip, causing him to go to war with the colonists. The colonists won and -
