Jamestown
England established its first permanent colony in Virginia. Before the colony was able to strive, Jamestown had to undergo difficult challenges. -
First Tobacco Batch Planted
John Ralfe was experimenting with growing tobacco. From seeds that he brought from the West Indies he began cultivating it. Then in 1616 Ralfe planted the first batch of tobacco. -
House of Burgesses
the first English representative government in North America. Made of 20 people, which were landowners, and it was the first government in the colonies. -
Dutch Slave Ship
The Dutch arrived in the colonies in North America. 20 Slaves were then sold to the colonists in Jamestown. This was the start of slavery in the south. -
Mayflower Compact
Strangers and pilgrims came to America on the Mayflower. They land on Plymouth and pilgrims sign mayflower compact. They needed to maintain order and establish a civil society. -
Massachusetts Bay Was Founded
The first English chartered colony who's board of governors did not reside in English. -
The First Navigation Act
The Navigation act said that only English ships were allowed to bring goods into England. It also said that North American colonies could export sugar and tobacco to England. -
King Phillips War
At Plymouth, the Wampanoag tribe taught pilgrims how to survive. They were very welcoming, but as time went on the Native Americans began to feel violated. There were many battles and a drought occurred. At the end of the war King Phillip was beheaded and displayed on a pole for 20 years. -
Bacon's Rebellion
Nathaniel Bacon didn't approve with the Jamestown policy, which said to not mess with the Native American tribes. Bacon wanted to plant tobacco so the colonists and indentured servants that agreed with him fought. Berkeley disapproves and denies Bacon. The Bacon got embarrassed and mad so he burned Jamestown to the ground. -
Salem Witch Trials
The trials happened in Massachusetts. Girls (mostly Abby and Betty) claimed to be possessed by the devil and accused women with witchcraft. -

Virginia Slave Codes
A series of laws enacted by Virginia's Colony House of Burgess's. The laws regulated the interactions between slaves and the citizens of Virginia. -
Stono Rebellion
Slaves would rob gun shops in order to make it to Florida. They wanted to go to this new state because the Catholic governor of Florida promised them freedom. To receive this freedom slaves had to convert to Catholicism and be loyal to Spain. -
The Seven Years War
A war between Britain and France. These two powers fought over English territory in France and the succession of the French throne. -
Treaty of Paris
A treaty between France and Great Britain after the 7 years war. This marked the end of the Revolutionary War and officially recognized the United States as its own independent nation. -
Stamp Act
The British Parliament got revenue from the American colonies by imposing tax on all papers and official documents. -
Quartering Act
Each colonial assembly was directed to provide for the basic needs of soldiers stations within borders. -
The Boston Massacre
At first it was a street brawl between America colonists and a lone British Soldier. It was a protest of the occupation of their city by English troops. A cause of this war was "taxation without representation." -
Gaspee Affair
One of the earliest acts of rebellion in the colonies and marked as the high end point in the America Revolution. Colonists boarded the Gaspee ship and set a crew ashore and buried/ sank the boat. -
The Boston Tea Party
A political protest in Massachusetts. They were mad at Britain for taxing them, so the colonists dumped out their boxes of tea into the harbor. Due to this, the British shut down the Boston Harbor until 340 chest of British East India Company tea was paid for. -
The Deceleration of Independence
On July 2nd, unanimous congress voted for independence. The document stated the principle that our government and people should follow. -

The Louisiana Purchase
The United States purchased the land west of the Mississippi River for $15 million from France. This doubled the size of the nation and provided future generations supply of new farmland. -
Embargo Act of 1807
Non-violent resistance to British and French molestation of U.S. merchant ship carrying, or suspected of carrying war materials and other cargoes to Europe during Napoleon wars -
The Indian War of 1812
Native Americans were fighting for freedom and independence. The natives resisted American expansion. The war created Indian heroes and established historical places. -
Battle of New Orleans
This American victory became a symbol of American democracy triumphing over the old European ideas of entitlement. The battle was the last engagement between the United States and Britain. -
The Monroe Doctrine
This doctrine warned European nations that the United States would not tolerate further colonization. The three main concepts of the doctrine was to separate spheres of influence from America and Europe, non-colonization, and non-intervention. -
Democratic Party has Begun
The party was built by Martin Van Buren. A donkey is their logo. They're a strong government. Part of a two party system. -
The Alamo
An important event in the Texas Revolution. Texans fought against the Mexican army, which eventually led to a victory. They got control over San Antonio. -
California Gold Rush
The gold rush began when James Marshall discovered gold in Coloma California. This news brought about 300,000 people across the U.S. to the west. -
First Practical Telephone
Created by Alexander Graham Belt. A needle is connected by a wire to the battery, and the battery was connected by a wire to a receiver. -
Thomas Jefferson was elected president
Jefferson was the third president of the United States. He was a founding father and the principal author of the Declaration of Independence.
