If you did not obey the law of the church you had to swallow poison, walk over nine hot ploughs. Only church courts could judge bishops, priests, clerks, monks and nuns. The church gave out lighter consquences than the royal courts. -

3,000 Christian pilgrims in Jerusalem prompted in the first Crusade. The Turks did not let any Chistian pilgrims make pilgrimiges.
