In 1607 104 English men took a journey to North America to start a new settlement in Virginia. On May 13th they chose Jamestown and they named it after king James. -
New York
It says here in the story I am reading "In 1624 the Dutch established a colony on what's now Manhattan Island called New Amsterdam." " It was renamed New York once the British took control of the area in 1664." But after the American Revolution in 1776, New York became a U.S. colony, then a state in 1788." -
South Carolina
It says here"The first European attempts at settlement failed, but in 1670 a permanent English settlement was established on the coast near present day Charleston. " -
Rhode Island
Rhode Island was founded by Roger Williams. The reason he founded it was because he was taken out of the Massachusetts colony for his separation from the church and the state. -
Maryland
George Calvert, 1st Baron Baltimore, applied to Charles I for a royal charter for what was to become the Province of Maryland. -
Delaware
It says here "A group of Dutchmen formed a trading company headed by Captain David Pietersen de Vries for the purpose of enriching themselves from the New World." -
Pennsylvania
Quaker William Penn granted King Charles ii a 45,000 square miles of land. Also they both worked together to found New Jersey and Quaker. -
New Jersey
The Duke of York gave Lord Berkeley and Sir George Carteret the land between the Hudson and Delaware rivers. -
Georgia
It says here"In 1733, General James Oglethorpe, acting on behalf of the Trustees for the Establishment of the Colony of Georgia." -
Connecticut
The founders of Connecticut were Thomas Hooker and Governor John Haynes of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. In 1636 they sent 100 people to settle in Hartford. Since Thomas Hooker, was a puritan minister the settlers passed the orders. -
Massachusetts
On 1628 a royal charter was called to the Massachusetts Bay to promote the settlement of the territory from sea to sea. The land was was granted by the Puritans to govern its colonies. -
New Hampshire
Captain John Mason sent David Thomson to fish merchants of London. Then they made a fishing colony which now turned into the colony of New Hampshire. -
Virginia
"In 1606 a group of wealthy London businessmen petitioned King James I for a charter to establish a colony in the New World." -
North Carolina
It says here "Carolina was a Proprietary colony established by England's King Charles II through the charter of 24 March."
