The Lost Colony of Roanoke Island
On May 8,1587 a group of people of over a hundred men,woman,and children set sail to cross the Atlantic ocean. Concerns for the hurricane season forced the colonists to stop thier journy so they settled on an island off the coast of North Carolina at Cesapeke bay. August 27,1587 John White returned to England to get supplies. Three years later he returned and found the island desserted. The only trace left was the letters "cro" carved into a tree and the word "crotan" carved into a fence post. -
First Baby Born in the New Colonies
The first baby born in the new colonies was Virginia Dare. She was born on August 15,1587. She was the first child born in the Americas that had English parents. -
