    Deficit SpendingFrance was having financial trouble, due to deficit spending which is when the government spends more money than it takes in. Louis left France in debt from the Seven Years' War and the American Revolution. In the 1700 costs rose.

    The government kept borrowing more and more money to bridge the gao between income and expenses. In the 1780a, bad harvest made food prices soar. To solve this crisis, the government would have to raise taxes or reduse expenses. Louis hired Jacques Necker (a financial expert). Necker said to reduce extravagant court pending, reform government, and abolish burdensome tariffs on internal trade.

    Third stage of the Revolution
    From all the horror from the reaction of the Terror, the revolution entered into a third stage. Moderates produces another constitution, the third since 1789. The constitution set up fiveman Directory and two-house legislature elected by male citizens of property. Peace was made with Prussia and Spain, but war with Austria and Great Britain continued. Threats ti the Directory begon, and as they continued polititions turned to Napoleon to use him to advaance their own goals.

    But before long, Napoleon outwited them all to become ruler of France. The Directory was made up of a 5 man and two-house legislatures which were all male. The Directory faced many problems including war with Austria and Great Brittan despite peace with Spain and Prussia. Royalists and ideas of monarchy was another threat to the Directory. At the end, the Directory turned to Napoleon Bonaparte who later becomes the ruler of France.

    National Assembly Acts Peasant uprisings and the storiming of the Bastille stampeded the National Assembly into action.
    SPECIAL PRIVILEGE- "Feudalism is abloished" said the delegates. Contemporary obvservers and modern historian note that the nobels gave up nothing.The national assembly soon turned the reforms of August 4th into law.

This paper annonced that al men were equal and had natural rights to enjoy liberty, property, security, and resistance to oppresseion. Also, many women were dissapointed that the Declaration of the rights of man did not grant them equal citizanship to them

    WOMEN MARCH CONTINUED- Most the aggresion was toward the queen, Marie Antoinette. She didnt pay attention to the poor people. The women refused to leave intill the king met their most important demand. The king agreeded.

    Bastille
    A bastille is a mideaval fortress used as a prison for politics and prisoners. There was rumors that royal troops were going to occupy the capital, so more then 800 Parisians assembled right outside the Bastille. They demanded weapons and gun powered believed to be stored inside the Bastille. The leader of the Bastille refused to open gates or open gun fire on the crowd. Bastille is a symbole of France representincy years of abuse by the monarchy.

    The Declaration of Pillnitz. In Aguust on 1791, Marie Antoinette's brother, who is the kind of Prussia and the emperor of Austria issued the Declaration of Pilnitz. It said they were going to intervene to protect the French monarchy. The revolutionaries got ready for war, which started more of a war.

    After the insidences with the bloodthirsty crowds, radicals then took affect of the assembly. Radicals called for the election of a new legislative body called the National Convention.The right to vote was to be extended to all male citizens. That convention met in September 1792 and that abolished onarchy and esablished a republic (the French Republic).

    Robespierre and the Rogion of Terror

    Region of TerrorMaximilien Robespierre was the cheifs architects of the Rogion of Terror. Revolutionary courts conducted hasty trials. Spectors greeted death sentences with cries of "Hail the Republic!" or "death to the traitors!" Robespierre thought that people who resist the revolution needs to loose their head. Seventeen thousand people were executed.
