Belgium says They're Different
Belgium took control of Rwanda after World War I. They use science and spread tribal myths that said the Tutsi and Hutu tribes were physically different. The Tutsis were beleaved to be the superior tribe and Hutu opposed this beleif. The Hutu later have government power around the 1950s. -
Hutu take Power
In about 1960, around 150,000 Tutsis were exiled by the Hutu. A Hutu general named Habyarimana takes power in 1973. Although he is a mean and ruthless leader there were no mass murders. -
Economic depression in Rwanda
Rwanda's main export, coffee fell terribly in world cost. Along with the fall of coffee, the price of tin dropped so much that mining was stopped completely. -
Trigger of the Genocide
In April 1994, the Hutu's president was assinated. The Hutu beleaved that the Tutsis were behind the murder. This triggered a massacre of all Tutsis and even some Hutu known as the genocide.
