The "Columbian Exchange"—a phrase coined by historian Alfred Crosby—describes the interchange of plants, animals, and diseases between the Old World and the Americas following Columbus's arrival in the Caribbean in 1492. For reasons beyond human control, rooted deep in the divergent evolutionary histories of the continents, the Columbian Exchange massively benefited the people of Europe and its colonies while bringing catastrophe to Native Americans.Thousands of them died. -

John white traveled to roanoke,an island off of North carolina.Later,he became governor of roanoke and brought more settlers.In 1585, John White, part of the English expedition to the North Carolina coast of North America, drew a map of the Carolina coastline. White’s map shows major bodies of water in the region, including the unnamed Chesapeake Bay, the Albemarle and Pamlico sounds, and the York and James rivers.
