    The Magna Carta

    The significance of the Magna Carta was that the policies listed in the Magna Carta were later included in the Declaration of Independence. The Magna Carta inspired the fifth amendement in the Bill of Rights which states that "no man shall be deprived of life, liberety, or property, without due process of law". The purpose of the Magna Carta was to show that the power of a monarch was not absolute and to protect the rights of the citizens.

  • Mayflower Compact

    The significance of the Mayflower Compact was that this was the very first contract about how to govern the United States by the colonists. The colonists, or pilgrams as they became known as, discused the idea of government and who should rule in America, this is where the idea of America's government started.
  • Petition of Rights

    The significance of the Petition of Rights is that it through the idea of monarchs who were given the right to rule through divine power into question. The petition also proclaimed that the citizens have the right to being tried by a jury of their peers in a court of law, This document continued to limit the power of monarchs so that the leaders couldn't ignore the rights of the citizens.

    The significance of the Navigation Act was that this act placed laws on colonial trading between Great Britian and other countries. This act restricted trading through foreign shipping between England and its colonies.
  • English Bill of Rights

    The significance of the English Bill of Rights is that the rights of the subjects and citizens for the parlimat were used in the First and Second amendments of the constitution. The freedom of speech and religion, as well as the freedom of the press were derived from this document.

    The significance of the Proclamation of 1763 is that this proclamation caused Great Britan to monitor their territory, this lead to the english to create boundaries for who could settle in the 13 colonies. This act was hated by the colonists since this act interfered with the way the colonists lived. This was one of the first events in which England shifted its attention over to the United States.

    The significance of the Sugar Act was that this act was one of the first attempts to directly tax the colonists. Sugar products were taxed heavily which angered the colonists since the colonists had never been forced to pay taxes by Britan.
  • Stamp Act

    The significance of the Stamp Act was that this act was one of the reasons why the colonists wanted to become independent from Britan. The Stamp Act was the very first direct tax on the colonists.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The significance of the Boston Tea Party was that this event was one of the first retaliations of the colonists against Britan which was linked, more or less, to the Revolutionary War starting.
  • Coercive Act

    The significance of the Coercive Act was that this act was the one thing that caused Britan to send troops over into America which was directly linked to the start of the Revolution. The Coercive Act was Britans reaction to the Boston Tea Party in which American colonists dumped a large supply of English Tea into the harbor to protest increaed taxes on trading goods and other things.

    The significance of the First Continental Congress was that this was the place where the idea of liberating from Britan took shape. Delagets from all of the colonies came together to try toliberate themselves from Britan.
  • First Shots Fired at Lexington and Concord

    The significance of this event was that it was these first shots that offically started the Revolutionary War. Minutemen ambushed British solders offically starting the revolution. The first battles at Lexingtom and Concord offically announced the colonists' will to be independent from Britan.
  • Second Continental Congress

    The significance of the Second Continental Congress was that the delgats from all of the colonies came together to manage the Revolutionary War. It was here that the idea of the Declaration of Idependence was born. The delegates came together to formulate their plans about the war they started.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The significance of the Declaration of Independence is that it was the document that announced the United States citizens wanted to be independent from Great Britan. This document, written by Thomas Jefferson proclaimed that all men are equal. This document justified the reasons as to why the United States wanted to seperate from Great Britan. In the Declaration of Independence, it states that all men have unalienable rights such as the right to life, liberety, and the pursuit of happiness.
