The Journey begins
The journey begins. They start out down the St. Louis River on a 55ft keel boat (made special for the journey) and two small boats called prougies. -
Discovery
Lewis and Clark discover a type of animal that is now called the eastern woodrat. They had seen woodrats down south but this one had a different fur coat. -
Peace
They are approcehed by the Oto and Missouri tribes. They trade gifts and make peace. -
Death
Soldier from the group dies. The soldier's death was assumed an apendix burst. -
Encounter with the Souix
As they travel down the river they encounter the Teton Souix who demand a boat for a toll to pass through. The situation was about to get hostile. Then the soldiers turned the moutned cannon at the cheif and they backed off. -
Making Progress
They had reached North Dakota. and decided stay their for the winter across the river from some friendly Indians. They built a fort and settled down. -
Hiring an Interpeter
They hire a french fur trader as a interpeter. His wife's name is Sacagawea. -
Bad news
They sent some soldiers with the Indians to hunt for food and they came back but one soldier was still out there too frost bitten to walk home. -
Journey Begins again
After settling dow for the winter they build 6 canoes and send the keel boat home with discoveries after the ice had melted enough to free the Keel boat. -
Progress
They reach the Junction at the Yellowstone River. -
Grizzly bear
They kill a Grizzly bear that attacked them. A Grizzly had never been documented before. -
The end
After two years they finally start the journey back home.
