A time of severe dust storms causing damage to farms and the atmosphere. It was caused by draughts and farmers not handling their crops properly. -

It was an assembly of 17,000 World War 1 veterans and their family at Washington D.C who demanded their bonus they were promised for fighting in World War 1. Although they were promised the bonus in 1945. 4 people died and 1,047 people were injured. -
Hitler Takes Power
When Hindenburg, the president, died, Hitler took up power and became dictator. The people believed that he would lead them out of the poverty that World War 1 put them in. -
Herbert Hoover takes office
The stock market crash of 1929 happened about 8 months after he took office. He tried to do volunteer work but the country was still in economic ruin, so he was highly blamed for the Depression. -
The New Deal
It was a program in respond to the Great Depression brought up by FDR . That dealt with the three R's; relief for the unemployed and the poor, recovery of the economy, and reform of the financial system. -
FDR elected
He came into office during the middle of the depression. He set up a relief program called the New Deal to help bring the American economy out of its ruins. -
Father Coughlin attacks FDR, jews
He was one of the first political leaders to preach his beliefs over the radio to mass numbers of people. Early in his career he was a big supporter of FDR and his ideas of change but he later became very judgmental of him. He started to harass Jewish bankers and agree with the views of Hitler. -
Indian Reorganization Act
This proised certain rights to Native Americans. It also restored their land and included provisions. -

They were passed by the United States Congress in response to the growing tragedy in Asia and Europe. They were made to ensure that the US would not be involved again in foreign conflicts. -

It involves many social welfare and social insurance programs. Mostly for helping the old or disabled. -

It was a bill that made up programs to help struggling Americans during the depression. It was a very big legislative accomplishment. -
GM Sit-down strike
GM workers sat down at their jobs. They stayed at the plants until an agreement was reached to organize and represent employers. -
Rape of Nanjing
It was a mass murder in the Japanese city Nanjing. Thousands of Chinese people and disarmed soldiers were murdered and 20,000-80,000 women were raped by soldiers of the IMperial Japanese Army. -
The Grapes of Wrath
The time of the book is set during the great depression. It focusees on the hard times of the depressions and also that of the dust bowl.
