Hoover was blamed for the depression. The slums were named after him and there were names for not so great things and his name was mentioned. -

Children had to walk to school and back wearing gas masks. Dust storms would come and pile high on farmers crops, houses, and cars, These dust storms were known as " The Black Blizzards " -
The Bonus Army
This army was of all the men who were angry they did not get the money they promised. President Hoover didn't agree with this and he sent his troops in to deal with this. -
FDR elected
Franklin is the only president to be elected four terms in a row. He was elected when the depression was at its worst and his attempt to get the country going again was known as the new deal. -
Hitler Takes Power
The man who appointed Hitler knew Hitler had enough power to satisfy the Nazi legislatures and the man hoped he could deal with the government behind the scenes. Hitler promised jobs to the unemployed, food for their familys, and he was aiming for a strengthened Germany. -
The New Deal
During roosevelt's presidency, the new deal offered relief to the unemployed along with the people on the verge of losing houses or farms. This took some time seeing as how 30,000 people were out of jobs and banks were shot. -
Indian Reorganization Act
this was an act to allow indians to own their own businesses,establish a credit system, develop indian lands, ect... A lot of the things indians did had to be run by the government though. -

The Social Security Act was signed under Franklin Roosevelt's presidency and was part of the new deal. -

1935-This act told travelers riding on boats to travel at your own risk. It expired 3 months later
1936-This reenstated the act previous to this one and forbode credit or loans to "beligerants" -

GM workers decided to sit until their demands were met. This happened in 1936 -
Rape of Nanjing
The Japaneese army killed over 300,000 people and raped over 20,000 of their women. For four days in a row, the army would go somewhere populated and open fire with their machine guns. They also tied up villagers, set them up into four columns and shot them with machine guns. -
The Grapes of Wrath
This a book published in 1939. A man gets back from prison to find his family left to their uncle Johns. They are in trouble because their possesions were in ruins after the Dust Bowl.
