President Herbert Hoover was the 31st President. The election of 1928 pitted Republican Herbert Hoover against Democrat Al Smith. -
The Dust Bowl
The Dust Bowl or the "Dirty Thirties" was a period of severe dust storms causing major damage to American and Canadian prairie lands from 1930 to about 1936. It was caused by severe drought coupled with decades of extensive farming without crop rotation, fallow fields, cover crops or other techniques to prevent erosion. -
RFC
The RFC (Reconstructed Finance Corporation) was modeled after the War Finance Corporation of World War I. President Hoover gave money to banks, railroads, and other bussinesses. -
The Bonus Army
The self-named Bonus Expeditionary Force was put together of 43,000 marchers—17,000 World War I veterans, their families, and other groups—who protested in Washington, D.C., in the spring and summer of 1932. Called the Bonus March by the news media, these men were better known as the Bonus Army. -
FDR elected
The election of 1932 was Hoover verse Roosevelt, took place as the effects of the 1929 Wall Street Crash and the Great Depression were being felt across the country. FDR won. -
Hitler takes power
Hitler's rise to power in Germany began in September 1919 when Hitler joined the political party that was known as the Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (later called Nazi Party). People of Germany were in sucha need of a leader following the war, they were willing to accept anyone. -
The New Deal
FDR entered into office and started something called The New Deal. This plan was based on the 3Rs :relief, reform, and recovery. He also gave a ton of unemployment money in order to help prevent another depression. -

Father Charles Coughlin was one of the first people to share his views through radio. Coughlin started as a supporter of FDR, but he soon turned into one of his biggest critics. -

The Indian Reorganization act finally gave back to native americans. It gave them their lands again. They did not make the Indians adopt a constitution, but made them follow many strict rules if they did. -

During Roosevelts first term he passed social welfare aid. He was the first president to give aid to the elderly, this was part of his oh so helpful "new deal". -

GM Sit-down strike
The GM Sit-down strike ocurred from 1936-1937. The UAW, also known as the United Auto Workers then resulted from some GM workers took over a plant in Flint. The car industry was then urbanized. -
Rape of Nanjing
The Nanking Massacre, also known as the Rape of Nanking, was a mass murder and war rape that occurred during the 6-week period following the Japanese capture of the city of Nanjing. Hundreds of thousands of people were murdered and 20,000-80,000 were raped. -
The Grapes of Wrath
The book " The Grapes of Wrath" was written by John Stienbeck. The book focused on and described how horrible farmers lives were due to the Dust Bowl. -
Neutrality Acts
The U.S passed The Neutality Acts to prevent themselves from becoming invloved in the war. However ,it was impossible to stay neutral any longer because they were selling arms to both sides for money.
