    World War I, the first of two of the most horrific wars man has witnessed, went from Jun 28th 1914 to November 11th, 1918.
  • Penicillin

    Alexander Fleming discovered, by accident, one of the most important medicines in history on this day. The discovery was known as penicillin.
  • Stock Market Crash

    With so many people investing in the stock market post WWI, a sudden declinein stock values sent stock holders selling like wildmen, leaving the economy devasted. This started the great depression.
  • World War II

    All of the great powers met in the second of the World Wars, where nearly 72 million people were killed. The war ended on Sept. 2nd, 1945.
  • The Great Smog

    Facing cold weather, London burned coal to heat thier homes as usual. Except, they burned enough coal to engulf London in a deep smog, killing 12,000 people in the process. The smog lasted approx. 4 days.
  • The Death of MLK Jr.

    Martin Luther King Jr., african american rights activist, was assinated on his balcony. Many people still believe the true assasin was never arrested.
  • Olympic Massacre

    The 20th olympics in Munichm, Germany ended in a terrorist attack by Black September, where all the terrorists were either captured or killed and all 9 hostages were killed.
  • Test Tube Baby

    The world's first test tube baby was born in the United Kingdom on this day. Louise Joy Brown was the first ever exucessful test tube baby and was the result of an infertile woman's egg being artificially inseminated.
  • Chernobyl Disaster

    Chernobyl Disaster
    WIth the safety systems down and a low amount of power coming into Kiev, the nuclear reactor went out of control and exploded. 31 people were killed immediately and thousands more from the after effects of radiation.
  • Columbine Massacre

    Two boys raded thier high school, shooting many innocent children and teachers. They killed themselves after, in what was the biggest massacre ever heard of in a school environment.
