  • First Slaves Sold In America

    First Slaves Sold In America
    In 1619 a Dutch ship had 20 enslaved Africans when they made a stop in Jamestown. The 20 Africans were sold to the people of the colony. This was the beginning of slave trading, that will later cause trouble on a new country that will have their dispute over slavery. This will ultimately caused the Civil War.
  • Fugitive Slave Act 0f 1793

    Fugitive Slave Act 0f 1793
    This was passed and caused for runaway slaves to be caught be able to be send back to their owners. This act drew attention to the inhumanity of slaves and grew tension between the north and the south. The northerners felt that they were forced to look for the runaway slaves and were not okay with doing so. I believe this was a big cause of the civil war because the northerners did not agree with this act while the south accepted and this cause for the north and south to argue.
  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    Nat Turner's Rebellion
    This rebellion was lead by Nat Turner in 1831 and Turner led an army of African Americans who were armed with guns and axes and went around and killed many people. They killed over 60 white men, women, and children but were stopped and executed. Southern states decided to add more restrictions on the slaves to not let another rebellion like this one happen again. The northerners did not agree with this option. This was a big event that led to the Civil War.

    Prigg vs. Pennsylvania
    This court case, Prigg vs. Pennsylvania, helped the northern states to not receive help to find runaway slaves and did not felt force to look for them anymore. They also added the personal liberty law which were laws that the north passed to counter the Fugitive slave law of 1793. Southerners did not like that they were not gonna get some of their slaves back. This then led to have North and South to have a dispute. This then will led to the Civil War.

    The compromise was made by Henry Clay which brought California as a free state, ended slave trading but din't end slavery and also added the fugitive-slave law. Southerners did not like how California was another free state and how they could no longer trade slaves or buy slaves. This was an important event that caused the Civil War.

    Uncle Tom's Cabin was a book that was written n 1852 by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Harriet was an abolitionist that decided to write Uncle Tom's Cabin which was a book about slavery. It showed the bad side of slavery and that made the northerners mad about seeing how slavery really was. This then led to the Civil War.

    Kansas-Nebraska Act
    This was an act that was passed in 1854 that let people choose to have their states either free or slave state. This act undid the compromise of Missouri and the line which got the northerners really mad that they rushed into Kansas and Nebraska to win and make them both free states. I believe that this caused the Civil War because it caused for both northerners and southerners to fight and have disagreements and cause tensions the both sides.

    This was a violent political confrontations between the anti-slavery and the pro slavery in Kansas debating if the state should be free or slave between 1854 and 1861. This event led up to the Civil War in the sense that the event caused the two sides of a big reason why the civil war started. Anti-slavery and the pro-slavery started to violently take each other out to make sure that their vote was worth more. This also led to the establishment of the republican party.
  • Dred Scott Decision

    Dred Scott Decision
    Dred Scott was a slave that traveled with his owner to free states. He believed he was a free man because he had lived on a free state where slavery wasn't legal. Scott then went to court in 1857 against Sanford but the court said he was not a free man because under the constitution he is not a person. This decision raised tension between North and South which then led to the Civil War.

    In the election of 1860 Abraham Lincoln had won this election which caused for the southern states to secede. Southern states decided to secede because Abraham was against slavery and the south did not give him much support. The south did not like most of his beliefs which is a caused why they seceded. This event was a big reason that will triggered the Civil War.
