    During the colonial period, the colonies were afraid of slave uprisings, so they came up with a series of laws know as slave codes. This led to the Civil War because it limited the slaves to what they could do, causing them to rebel.

    In 1793 Eli Whitney invented the Cotton Gin, this invention allowed 50 lbs. of cotton to be produced everyday. This led to the civil war because it increased the use of slaves, increased number of slave owners and plantations.

    In 1800, Gabriel Prosser gathered 1,000 rebellious slaves in richmond, but the attack failed. This led to the Civil War because it caused conflicts between slaves and slave owner.

    In the United States a introduced an act stating that no new slaves could be imported into th US, this act was know as the Slave Trade Act. this led to the Civil War because it caused southerners that wanted slaves to do it illegally causing the Anti-Slavery party members to get mad.

    Nat Turner led a revolt in Virginia, killing 60 men, women and children. This led to the Civil War because it caused conflicts between Slaves and Slave owners.

    In 1844, James K. Polk was elected President and had controversal issues, including slave expansion through annexation of the Republic of Texas. This led to the Civil War because it caused issues between the North and South and in future would cause Texas to join as a slave state and support the south in Civil War.

    In 1854, white males in both the Kansas territory and Nebraska territory got the right to decide if they wanted to be a slave state or not through popular sovereignty. This led to the Civil War because it caused problems in the goverment over slavery.

    In 1857 the Supreme court made a decision that stated African Americans, wheter free or enslaved could not be American citizens, therefore could not sue in fedral court. This led tp the Civil War because it caused African Americans to be enraged and rebel against the goverment.

    In 1860 Lincoln Won the election and became president beating his competitors, Stephen Douglas, John Bell and John C. Breckinridge. This led to the Civil War because Lincoln was against slavery and Douglas was for popular sovereignty, leading to conflict between the North and South.
