In 1619 was the very first time we had brought slaves in to America. This was the very beginning of the Civil War it was not a very big issue back then but then some people started to relize that it was wrong. The South was big on the slavery and the North was not. -

Pennsylvania became the first state to aboilish slavery. This made the south very angry. This was making the south wan't to have slavery and none of the North did so they were not getting along. -

Economic and social differences between the North and the South
When the cotton gin was created their was a large demand for more slaves and plantations they had to switch crops to cotton. The North was a industrial territory so they actually got cotton from the south and made products from the cotton. The big differences in their economy made them work together to be successful. -
Western Expansion
After President Thomas Jefferson bought the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, the United States doubled in size. This purchase gave the United States control of the lands west of the Mississippi. As Americans pushed west, the issue of slavery came to the forefront. -
Under ground rail road
The under ground railroad was created an was sending thosands of slaves to freedom. The North had to arrest and give back slaves that they cought if they let them free they would be breaking laws and the south would have probably fought us sooner than we had the Civil War. -
Missouri southern border
From 1820 on, all states above Missouri’s southern border would be free states. All states below that border would be slave states. -
Fugitive Slave Law
The Fugitive Slave Law of 1850 was very controversial. It required that all citizens were obligated to return runaway slaves. People who helped slaves escape would be jailed and fined. -

Abraham Lincoln was a very big part in the start and the ending of the Civil War. Lincoln was trying to fight as hard as he could for slvery to be abolished and that is exactly what he did.
