1.2 History of English Timeline
Chapter 1: 410-450 AD Saxons - Jutes Anglo Saxon The Romans left their language. 597 AD 597 AD Christian missionaries taught latin. They invented the 5 days of the week. The Anglo Saxon vocabulary was more useful. The Vikings entered to conquer with their language. They gave 2000 words. Chapter 2 1066: The Norman Conquest. William the coqueror brought new concepts to the language and French. French entered 1195, 1290, 1300, 1400 French combined English. France fought England for 100 years. -
1660 The Royal Society appears. The English of Science in the 17th. Century
Science started to discover things faster. Thigs like Acid, gravity, pendulum. The scientists started inventing words to the body: pennis, vagina and clittoris in 1615.
Chapter 6: (1583-1914) England started spreading their Language to other countries (Empire) 1550. India 1650, Africa 1850, 1871.
Chapter 7: (1746-1755) The age of the Dictionary of the English Language In 1857 The Oxford English Dictionary comes out and it`s invented. -
English takes over as the official Language
Chapter 3: Shakespeare invents 2000 new words and phrases 1864-1660. For him Englsh expresses an emotion path.
Chapter 4: 1611 The King James Bible is written and printed with hundred of words. Everybody comprehends. Preached by hard preachers to the end of the World. It became or gave lots of metaphor and morality.
Chapter 5: 17 Century The English of Science. The physicists started to appear. The Royal Society was formed in 1660. Science started to discover things faster. Acid, gravity, etc -
English takes over as the official Language
Chapter 3: SHAKESPEARE (1864-1616) invents 2000 new words and phrases. For Shakespeare English is richer. It expresses an emotion path.
Chapter 4 1611 AD The King James Bible is written and printed, with hundreds of words everybody comprehends. It`s preached by hard preachers to the end of the World. The KJB gave lots of metaphor and morality.
Chapter 5: The English Science of the 17 Century. The physicists started to appear. The Royal Society was formed in 1660. Science discover new words. -
American English is born with the pilgrims coming to America.
Chapter 8: The British English is revised again. The Native Americans borrow their words to pilgrims of different cultures. Deutsch people share their language also. 1703 - 1794. Germans in 1856 share pretzels and delicatessen, Italian come with pizza and pasta. In 1967 the American English has extended with words like capitalism, Breakeven, Motorline. In 1986 new words are invented. American English starts being different from British English. -
Internet English: In 1972 The First e-mail message was sent.
Chapter 9: 1973 Some abbreviations became to get known. In 1991 "In my humble opinion" was changed to "IMHO"; "By the way" was changed to "BTW"; "For your information" was changed to FYI; "Frequently ask questions" was changed to "FAQ"; "lol" = "lots of laughs"; "UG2BK" = "You`ve got to be kidding".
Chapter 10: Global English. There are 350 languages up to now and it has become a Global Institution. Nowadays there is an English according to each country.
