Magna Carta
The Magna Carta ended the war between the king and rebel barons, promising protection of some rights. However, neither side stood by their commitments, and it was soon inulled by the pope. -

Albany Plan of Union
This was a proposal to create a unified gov't for the thirteen colonies, suggested by Benjamin Franklin. Twenty representatives also gathered to plan their defense for the French and Indian War. -
Boston Massacre
Five male colonists were killed, and another six injured, when British soldiers fired at them after being harrassed. This event heightened tensions between the British and Americans. -
Boston Tea Party
Members of the Sons of Liberty, dressed as American Indians, took shipments of tea from the East India Company and dumped them into the Boston Harbor. This soon escalated into the American Revolution. -
First Continental Congress
Formed after the Intolerable Acts were passed, delegates from twelve of the thirteen colonies were members. They tried to fight the Intolerable Acts, but were unsuccessful. -
Second Continental Congress
They were formed shortly after the Revolutionary War had begun. They somewhat acted as a form of gov't to led the U.S. in the war. -
Declaration of Independence
This was the declaration that the thirteen colonies were free from British rule, and their ow n country. -
Articles of Confederation
Created Novermber 15, 1777, the Articles of Confederation took about four years to be ratified. Even when not ratified, it helped direct the American Revolutionary War. -
Shay's Rebellion
An armed uprising that took place between August 1786 and June 1787. They had tried, and failed to take over the U.S. gov't. -
Philadelphia Convention
Taking place from May 25 to September 17, 1787, it addressed governing the U.S. It resulted in the U.S. Constitution. -
Virginia Plan
A proposial for a bicameral legislative branch. It set forth the idea of population-weighted representation.
