    EUROPEAN DISCOVERY
    A New World was born when Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas. There wasn't anything particularly new about the world considering the land had been inhabited for thousands of years prior to this. People who moved to the 'New World' made the decision due to push/pull factors. Over time these countries had created their own history, reputation and culture.

    THE ENLIGHTENMENT

    The Enlightenment was a time for big changes in Europe. People began to accept reason and individuality over tradition. The enlightenment was like a chain reaction starting only through small changes. The Enlightenment effected the Europeans by giving them the right to be themselves and have their own opinion. Churches felt threatened because not as many people were believing in them any longer.
  • THE FIRST FLEET

    THE FIRST FLEET
    This was the date when 'The First Fleet' set sail for The New World. The First Fleet had a total of 11 ships each of them being overcrowded with convicts and free settlers. Many people on these ships died because of either starvation or disease. The ships arrived in Botany Bay on 18th of January 1788. Botany Bay seemed like an unsuficiant place for settlement so they continued to sail up to what us now known as Sydney Harbour. The arrival date being 25th of January 1788, now celbrated as Aus Day
  • FREE SETTLERS

    FREE SETTLERS
    These were people who chose to move to the 'New World' to live out of their own free will. They moved because of 'push and pull' factors. These would be things such as owning more land (pull factor)
  • CONVICTS

    CONVICTS
    A convict was someone who had been sentanced to be taken to the 'New World' to live. They would work for the free settlers, there jobs would be things like: servants, farm labours, bricklaying, shepards and building roads. A convict would be sentance because of usually stealing food or animals. Times were tough though so this sort of law breaking was very frowned upon.
  • Making of a Nation

    On the 1st of January, 1901 the states of Australia (SA, NSW, WA, VIC, TAS and QLD) drew away from their mother country to start their own government. This meant that Australia would now be an independant nationhood. Australia was on it's way to being a nation of it's own!
  • ASSASINATION OF ARCHDUKE FRANZ FERDINAND

    ASSASINATION OF ARCHDUKE FRANZ FERDINAND
    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was heir to the Austrp-Hungarian throne. Him and his wife were visiting Sarajevo to inspect the army. On the way to their desination people one of the motorcades was shot (not the Archdukes) but as they returned a member of the Serbian Group; The Black Hand, shot and killed the duke and his wife. After their deaths there was more or less a chain reaction affect that happened.

    BRITAIN DECLARED WAR ON GERMANY
    Britain declared war on Germany because of how Germany invaded Belgium. Belgium was a neutral country therefore meanig it was a law/policy that it should not and would not be invaded.

    On the 25th of April 1915 the ANZAC's waited to land along the Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. The battle ships towed both the steam boats and row boats (containing the soldiers). The steam boats seperated and continued towing the row boats. Along this part of the journey the boats lost their formation. Once the row boats were close to the shore a steam engine lit up. This exposed the happenings on the beach. starting the battles
