Newton's Laws of Motion
There was a man in England named Sir Isaac Newton. He worked on developing calculus and physics at the same time. During his work, he came up with the three basic ideas that are applied to the physics of most motion (NOT modern physics). The ideas have been tested and verified so many times over the years, that scientists now call them Newton's Three Laws of Motion. -
Gatling Gun
The Gatling Gun was a great invention in the 1860's. Knowone had ever seen a weapoon like this before. it could fire over 400 rounds a minute and could destroy enemies with ease. Richard J Gatling invented this piece of fine machinery. Versions of this gun are still used today all over the world. -
Referendums were held, for or against a new constitution
In June 1898 referendums were held in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. Australia was the first nation to take a proposed constitution to the people for approval. The referendum was passed in Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. However, while a majority of voters in New South Wales voted 'yes' to the referendum, it did not attract the 80 000 'yes' votes, which was the minimum set by the NSW parliament. -
Australians landed in Gallipoli
In the dark before dawn, battleships, destroyers and troopships approached the Turkish coast where the Australians and New Zealanders were to land to battle the Turkish.
‘The attack on Gallipoli was one of the more imaginative strategies of the First World War ... Gaining control of the Dardanelles would re-establish communications with Russia and release wheat and shipping locked in the Black Sea by Turkey. The grand plan had failed, and months of further fighting followed for little gain. -
Weapons Of the Battlefield
Once WW1 ceased being a war of movement, major attempts were made to break the stalemate. Improvemeents in technology had provided the attackers with new and more powerful weapons, but the same weapons were also available for the defence. the defence was now strong enough to hold up against the offence. Many causualties occurred, before people figured this out.
