    The Enlightenment
    What caused the Enlightenment?
    Influential thinkers such as writers and philosophers were challenging beliefs that were based on religion and superstition and replacing them with beliefs and ideas based on rational thought and science. The effect of the Enlightenment?
    The Enlightenment made people think in a different way. It saw a turning away from the dominance of the church and the supernatural and blind faith. It cultivated a new era of intellectual thinking and scientific study.

  • The Assasionation of Franaz Ferdinland.

    The Assasionation of Franaz Ferdinland.
    World War 1 was said to have been caused by the assasionation of Archduke Franaz Ferdinland, heir to the Austro- Hungarian throne. Archduke and his wife, Sophie, were killed on the 28th of June, 1914. By the 4th of August all of the powerful European people were at war. The war was between empires because it's roots were in nationalism and imperialism. The empires faught to gain a bigger empire or to preserve the empire they already had.

    Gallipoli Campaign
    The Gallipoli Campaign was caused by the Brittish and the French advised more fighting on the Eastern Front to relieve some pressure off the Western Front. The Australian casualties were 160 killed and 468 wounded and tat is a huge amount compared to the other troops. 25 April 1915 and 9 January 1916

    Convict
    Between 1803 and 1853 approximately 75,000 convicts came to Australia because they commited a crime. The crime nowdays may not be that servere but back then it was very serious. They may have be convicted for simply stealing a loaf of bread. The long term effects of their conviction was being shipped to Australia and having to start a new life without any money and with no choice.

    Free Settlers
    The free settlers that came over with the first fleet were people who were paid to came to Australia and start a new life. Some people that were chosen to came over here had a bad past and in some ways it was god for them to start fresh. Others, however, were quite wealthy and looking to start a new life and even create their own business with their families. Free settlers that were married and had children were allocated a bigger peice of land that people who wern't married and without a family
  • Working Man (Part 1)

    In the 1940's and 50's, after the gold rushes, major Australian cities developed rapidly. By 1888, Melburne was the second largest city in the world and largest in Australia. Living and working conditions in the inner-city of Melburne working class districts were generally poor. Unskilled workers were forced to live within walking distance of their workplace because they were unable to pay for transport.

    Workers who were paid on piece-rate earned barely enough to survive during this time of low demand. The raipd growth in inner-city working class suburbs led to an increase in poverty and crime. For skilled workers life was so much simplar, and they had relitively hight wages, shorter working hours and the oppertunity for sef advancement.

    American's are coming!
    On May 7th, 1915, the passenger liner Lusitania was sunk by a German submarine during a U-boat campaign. Many citizens of the United States of America were killed. America is a neutral country and they sent notes to Germany about being concerned. Germans called off the U-boat campaign but re-introduced it in 1917. They did this because they were hoping it would conclude the war.

    Involunarty Migration is when someone is forced to move and they have absolutely no say in it at all. Convicts were involuntary migrators and they were orded to move by the European Government. Life on the ship was less that bad. They had very little food supplies and the food that they did have was rotten and spoiled.

    Since the Europeans invaded Australia in 1788, the Aboriginal people have been oppressed into a world that is un-natural to their existance for thousands of years. The Abroginal people have had not such a great life since the Europeans invaded their land. They have had to deal with the Europeans thinking that they own the land and that they can do whatever they want.
  • First Fleet

    First Fleet
    The First Fleet is the name given to the 11 ships that left Great Brittan, bound for Australia on the 7th of May, 1787. The Journey took 252 days and there were 1044 passergers abord the ship. Out of the people on the ships there were officers, their wives and children, some free settlers, 504 male convicts and 192 female.
