  • Crowded Prisons

    Crowded Prisons
    By 1770, one thousand convicts were going over to North America but this all changed when the American war started and convicts were no longer allowed to go over to America. this lead to over croweded prisons in brittan. the brittish had an idea to use a boat as a prison, but this lead to crowded and poor living condition and later leading to deseases.
  • The American Revolution

    The American Revolution
    The American Revolution was a war between the Kingdom of Great Brittan and the thirteen American colonies. The war started from the way that Great Brittan was treating America. It started from small arguments and grew bigger until America decided to fight for their own countries choices.
  • The Penal Colony

    The Penal Colony
    On the 26th of January, 1788, a fleet of 11 boars arrived in Port Jackson. on board was 1332 people. Among them, were 736 convicts (that had a sentence from 7 years to life) and among them, 23 died due to bad living conditions. This was the first Penal Colony.
  • Ticket to Freedom

    Ticket to Freedom
    In 1801, the ticket-of-leave system decided to give the opportunity of working for money to good behavioural convicts. If these convicts started to act badly, They couldn’t work anymore. This was called the Ticket to Freedom
  • Second British Colony

    In 1803, Lieutenant John Bowen created the second British Colony in Van Dieman's Land (Tasmania). It was originally in Risdon Cove but he then moved it to Hobart. The people in this colony were the worst behaving convicts.
  • The Bounty Scheme

    The Bounty Scheme
    In 1835, the amount or boys to girls was very uneven in New South Wales. The population was so off balance that only 1/5 of them were girls. To change this, the Government introduced something called The Bounty Scheme. By using this, three years later (1838) 6000 people had already moved to New South Wales because of The Bounty Scheme.
  • Caroline Chisholm

    Caroline Chisholm
    in 1838, Caroline Chisholm arrived in Sydney from England. When she found the majority of women emigrants living on the streets and unemployed, she wanted to help. She established a home for female emigrants and tryed to find jobs for them all. In 1846, Caroline returned to England and had already helped more than 10, 000 people find work.

    In New South Wales, victoria, Tasmania and South Australia in 1898, referendums took place. This included asking people to vote for or against federal constitution.

    Germany became the very first country to use poison gas in warfare in 1915.
  • The Gallipoli Campagn Failure

    The Gallipoli Campagn Failure
    On the seventh of December, 1915, the British side evacuated. The British were not successful throughout the whole campagne. the only success was the evacuation because the Turks didn't know so no one died from enemy fire.

    in 1916, the war of attrition started. the was soon became a total war and started to affect every aspect of daily life.
