Creation of US navy
John created the first US navy. On march 27, 1794 congress passed the naval act, which established the first naval force in America. The navy that Adam's created was super beneficial in the war of 1812 to be able to fight over water. -
XYZ affair
On October 18, 1797 three american reps were sent to France in hopes to gain peace. Instead, the french minister refused to talk unless america payed him a bribe. Americans were outraged with the french and wanted to react violently. French agents who John Adam's kept their identity hidden were labeled XYZ, thus the name. -
Quasi-War
The XYZ affair resulted in an undeclared war between the US and France, known as the Quasi-War. President John Adams strengthened american forces, but did not declare an official war. Again in 1800 Adams sent another peace delegation, against the cabinet's advice. With the signing of the convention of 1800 in September, the war ended.
